Sierra Exhaust - tip placement

Post by greg »

Hi All,

I'm after some first hand knowledge from anyone that runs their exhaust tip to a non-stock location.

I know that the exhaust is in it's stock location in the rear passenger corner to avoid having the fumes sucked back into the passenger area. But i am thinking about running it out to behind the passenger door just in front of the rear tyre - does anyone else have this setup? Is it terrible?

Or at the back in the middle somwhere (i.e. where the numberplate / towbar is normally located)?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg mine dumps out right under the passengers seat. Basically it comes out of the muffler. I haven't had a problem with fumes coming back into the cab at all and I tend to drive with my windows open. But even on the snow trip when I have had doors shut still no fume problems. It is tucked up out of the way, whereas before that I had it exiting just behind the cab just in front of the rear passenger side tyre. It was a little more vulnerable there and I managed to catch it a few times on ledges etc

greg,

don't dump it out the back. when i got my 2" system fitted a few years ago the nimrods routed it right out next to the number plate.

bad idea. fumes get sucked back in while driving, not to bad with mine as the fuel burns with this rather kewl smell, but on compression (or lack there of) I can smell the oil.

rout it out the passenger side like grimbo. if you have sliders you may be lucky enough to use them to protect the pipe a little bit.

Yup, it came out just in front of the passenger's side rear tyre

With the 2" body lift I had the pipe run over the chassis rail, it was tucked up there pretty neat, never really had any problems hitting it

Sweet - thanks mate... All I have to do now is find a stubby little muffler to squeeze in there too :D

this is indeed an option we are looking into.

660cc's of pure grunt could sound pretty cool through a motorbike muffler

now now you two... this could all end in tears if you keep this up. ;)

On the subject of mufflers, a fellow in the zook club has just donated a 2.25" nissan exa muffler to the cause... we'll see how that goes :)

cheers

I dunno if any of you have seen Supertrapp mufflers on Rotary cars?

These were designed for motorbikes and work damn well on small car engines - they often use them on Mini races too...

I had these issues with my 240z - modified exhaust leaking into the cabin. Best thing is make sure the directional tip points so that it isn't sucked back into the car on the move - that means either down or out to the left.

If you're not spraying block droplets onto some girl's wedding dress no one will care much.

Come to think of it most men wouldn't anyway.

Looks like we are placing it out the back of the car again - having it under the B pillar (in front of the rear passenger wheel) put it directly below the new fuel filler position - and we decided that might be a bit dodgey.

oh well...

that's what mine used to do but I'm glad I moved it especially now with those huge flame back fires I get. They look cool at night but I'm not sure I'd like it to do it under the fuel filler :onfire:
