OZ Rock 4x4 Round 1 - 11th-12th March - Walbundry NSW
Moderator: evanstaniland
cool weekend. good to finally see some really hard terrain used in a competition.
as someone said earlier the lines chosen were the same ones you would be driving if you went there on any given weekend for a play..
nam is king of the kids. he had kids chasing him around all weekend, and i was sitting with him having dinner at the pub in walbundrie last night and there were 6 year old girls coming up with pen and paper to get his autograph.
congratulations to all involved.

Gday all,
just wanted to echoe the comments above.
What an excellent weekend with awsume tracks, would have to be the best tracks of any rock comp ive been to in australia.
This weekend pushed the limits further again and it was great.
A big and thank you to Cheezy and all the others involved in this awsume weekend.
To have this weekend run on crown land with the backing of the local council is an unbelievable achievement in itself, let alone letting us drive the obstacles we did, once again .
Well done to all the competitors, they also helped make this an awsume weekend.
Thanks again to all those involved, I cant wait for the next one.
Cheers

Did the clean up this morning and have to say that the little amount we had to pick up was fantastic, so a BIG to all that were there for placing your rubbish in the bins.
My 2 biggest high lights for the weekend was, Nam standing his buggy on its nose fully vertical and driving out of it complete with bent steering wheel and Bally lossing his virginity with his 1st ever roll over.
One thing I do have to say about ALL the compeditors is how bloddy well they all drove write from the start of the event. Considering how hard the stages were and the things we were getting them to drive up we still only had 1 roll over on stage 4 Saturday (NAM) and 1 rollover on stage 1 Sunday (Bally).
One thing we would do differnt if we were able to would be to run Sunday differntly. We would have run stage 1 as stage 3 because as it turned out it was ALOT harder then we thought it would be. Sam was the ONLY one to basicly have it done but he was stopped as he was leaking loads of fuel and being on a day of total fire ban was not a good thing. Personly I think if he didn`t have to stop he would have driven it.

This is the funniest thing I have ever heard
Its NOT "NAM the stunt man" its "NAM king of the kids"
Ahh, but Ozrock is a Werock event now is it not???
Not Werock Australia, but Werock International, so are his pictures really titled wrongly & does he really need to change them?????
Let us Ponder.....

Well it was bloody hot all weekend and it really pushed the spotters & drivers hard BUT what a grouse drive by all competitors .
Well done the OPW crew for taking it out .
The next round will be a ball tearer cos more buggies will be finished for sure.
The Sunday stages were a lot harder for sure (although we were confident that the start of stage 1 & 2 were drivable on Friday when we were setting them up) but what a show on stage 1 (sunday) , I agree with Guts that had it not been for the SU's leaking out the breathers, Sam was deffinately crawling/scraping his way up the crack and I thought that Pete (OPW) was on the money reversing up but it just slipped into the crack and over he went.
Then on stage 2 we revised the start line when Pip in the ABT buggy was just smokin' the Exterrains big time (the heat had totally dried the rock in this area and made as smooth as) but we wanted to get them all around to last gate before the finish line, so the spectators could get a good view of what the buggies are capable of. This stage was a real technical one for sure with the spotters really working hard to get the buggies up over &onto the rock, then it was upto the drivers to put there tires in the right spot to launch them off.
The DVD will show how well this was done but the OPW boys did it and earnt themselves a -4 score after they only reversed a few times "1 pnt for each reverse", used the rear steer "5 pnt" and then getting through all 4 gates gave them "-4 pnts" and then through the finish gate "-10"(which I was working on the lowest score given how tight it was to get around the cones/rocks & the drop off to be in mid +5to8 ) really shows how well these boys think when under pressure.
Then the ABT boys were on song and right when I thought they had it the rear wheels decided to bury into the crack in the rocks and it all went pair shaped and they timed out, all the other competitors did the same but put on a grouse show for the crowd and they were getting loud too Then the Skyjacker crew had a go and they crawled it in record time and rock stacked smart then Kal drove up and over to earn them selves a -8 which just wowed everyone.
Again well done to all the competitors.

not much more i can add to all the comments already said, but was the best comp to date I have seen, was awsome to be able to film it under the bunting,
for my new camera to almost get crushed by the abt boys was alittle nervey but also awsome(because it didnt) and hopefully the footage turns out fantastic,
well done to cheezy and webbie for the hard work they put in, and all other people behind it . Thanks also for keeping us all hydrated as it was unbelievably hot.
bring on round 2!

Well as has been said before one hell of an event.
Didn't even know about this till i read the boarder mail (Albury local paper) on Sat morning, at the folk's place. Was meant to be going fishing on Sunday but that plan kinda got changed real fast (best choice i made for the weekend).
Good to see an event like this close to Melb (for a change, not Sydney or QLD).
Won't post any pics as there is enough here already.
Can't wait for the next event at Yea

I would like to say thank you to all the people that helped out all weekend as it was V-hot and both days were v-long.
The track and safty marshalls didnt let up all weekend with a few needing lots of water and a bit of a sit down at times with temps around 43
Thanks again to Webbie as without him this round wouldnt have been as good. He helped get us the property helped with adds in the papers and radio stations so again Thanks.
Thanks to the people of Walbundrie, I havnt seen a town pull together and make everyone one of there own.
They cooked all meals, we camped at there footy club and used the showers ect they helped all weekend to make it happen.
Also a big thanks to Max (the person that runs the town) Paul the owner of the pub (also runs the town ) and everyone that turned up to watch.
The event wes a big sucess and the entire town are looking forward to the next round there later in the year.
Congrats to Pete and Tass for the win or round 1 06
Full steam ahead for round 2 6-7 May at YEA Victoria.
