Shocks - Belton Overlander vs. EFS

Post by D_Web »

The Mav needs a new set of shocks, and from what I've been told it's either going to be the EFS or Belton Overlanders.

I've found absolutely no info on the Belton shocks, but I have been told that they are a little softer than the EFS. From the searches I've done, many people seem very happy with their EFS kit, and for the price they seem great.

The vehicle is a daily driver, but will get its fair share of medium - serious 4WD'ing and hopefully a good bit of touring aswell.

Ultimately it will probably come down to price. I've been quoted $440 for the EFS and $580 for the Beltons.

Any experiences/suggestions?

Should be similar price for dobinsons too. Procomps would be maybe $100 a set more than the dobinsons but cheaper than the overlander.

I understand there are 3 different types/grades of EFS shock (think they are Enforcer, Elite and Extreeme), so make sure you know which ones you are being quoted for so you can compare apples with apples ;)

why does it have to be those two shocks. Why not XGS or OME? Theyve been around for alot longer then EFS. Never heard of belton though :?

Yes, just like the situation with OME and Monroe. They come out of the same factory (Cofap's) but the shocks can be different as they are made to the specs of TJM / Carrolls.

There are only a few companies that make shocks in aussie..
they are all made to different specs by these companies...

The Cofap shock manufacturer has had a very good reputation in Australia for over 20 years. Australia has been a solid development base for the Cofap products and Cofap will continue to use Australian companies and vehicles as a benchmark for shock absorber performance.

The TJM and EFS (Elite) products are from Cofap and do have many similarities, but have been valved to suit certain coil rates. So what ever shock you purchase, try and give the salesman at TJM or EFS a basic description of your coil so the rates can be determined and shocks matched.

If you arnt doing extreme competition and you arnt gonna boil your shocks, why dont you try and get a set of super cheap GABRIEL shocks

LMAO joke
You get what you pay for, ive heard of people putting wing nuts on there ironman suspension cause they replace it every six months. So dont go for the cheapest.

I've heard Belton make a lot of OEM gear (not OME!). They would suggest they'd be comparable to a standard patrol shock, perhaps?

I'd say go for a more established brand like Old man emu.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The Belton still seems like an unknown quantity, and I've heard nothing but praise for the EFS, so I might buy a set when finances avail.
