yeah i want to be able to carry 2 spares when i go away with the camper
one on the car and one on the camper so they are interchangeable.
also in the event of several tyres going you can leave the camper and use the wheels to go get them fixed

I took the hub off and took it to the trailer joint so they could give me the correct size bearings in the new hubs to match the axle.
They wern't really keen on putting a 6 stud hub on my size axle .
Its only a small tool trailer but I wanted to run 35s
Also have to look at your offset as your axle may not be wide enough and your tyres will scrub on the trailer..
I also did a spring over to gain a bit more clearance.

If it's on a camper, make sure the floor of the tent will still reach the ground properly. If I run the same tyres on my trailer as my lux, the floor of the tent is off the ground by about 4 inches and is a mongrel thing to put up anywhere near properly.wazza73 wrote:yeah i want to be able to carry 2 spares when i go away with the camper

I was contemplating doing this also. I wanted to do a bit of welding work on my current 6x4, doing a SOA conversion, adding shocks, trigg hitch and putting on cruiser stud pattern with sunnies. I want to do mine in the next 6 months or so and will post pics progressively as its done. Any one got any pics of their own?

When I made my motorbike trailer 24 months ago, I purchased the hubs from Supercheap at Cannon Hill for about $30 each. They were 6 stud to suit cruiser rims. You can get any combination you like.
Just recently I put mags on my boat trailer and I used ford stud pattern to suit the Mazda RX7 ricer mags - except they had to suit my axle which used Holden bearings! Pretty much any combination is possible.
If you need a new axle spun up (as was my case with my boat trailer because the new mags weren't offset enough) try BATC Brisbane Axle and Trailer Components at Tingalpa. New Cleveland Road to be precise. Les Duffel also makes 4by parts for patrols etc such as panhards etc. He'll hook you up with an axle spun to any specs for like $40.00!

Just tell the trailer place/Supercheap what style of axle and bearings you are running. They can then get a hub to suit your rims with the correct centre for the bearings.
Some places will tell you it's illegal to put a 6 stud hub/wheel onto a 1/2 ton axle (small holden bearings) and may not sell the combination. Just smile.....they aren't dong the work, you are, so it's on your head if anything lets go.
However, technically they are correct, so if you intend giving the trailer a hiding I'd recommend you swap out the axle for one which supports the larger bearing sets (3/4 ton ??) then fit your 4X4 wheels.
