Permanant Magnet vs Series Wound Winchs??

Post by dank »

Hey guys
Just toying around with the idea of getting a winch for the zook. Permanant magnets seem to be a helluva lot cheaper than the series wound units. Whats the go with both types?

Also your opinions on winchs like Brawn, Kew, Ironman etc would be appreciated. (I am aware that they probably come out of the same shop somewhere in china!)

I know warn are prob the best but $$$ dictates this little project i have. My only concern is if i have to do a long winch eg up a steep slippery slope which will be better?
cheers

the cheap winches are alright but if you are gonna abuse it you cant go past a WARN. If you a seriously going to a abuse it, get a high mount. But seeing as you have a little truck  maybe a $900 winch will do?

You won't get nearly much torque from a permenant magent as you will from a series wound motor. I'd go the series wound motor.
Magnets may deteriorate overtime

Go wound, magnets will degrade and fall out with vibration!
