Stock seat removal - threaded bolts??
Hey all,
This may sound silly, but 5 out of 8 bolts holding my seats in seem to be threaded - one on the drivers side and 3 on the passengers.
How can I get them out without destroying them? I am trying to dry fit my new seats (they are very comfy) and the bolts just keep spinning...

do you mean that the bolts are stripped, or cross threaded? i'm pretty sure that all bolts are threaded, well, last time i checked.
many of the bolts on a suzuki usually go into a captive nut. a captive nut is usually a nut which has been tacked onto the body or chassis. sometimes you can see them, other times they may be hidden in between body work or inside a frame or chassis.
if you are trying to undo the bolts for the seats, and they just seem to be spinning, then try to locate the captive nut underneath, which may have broken its tack and be spinning also.
if you can find it, its just a case of holding the nut and un-doing the bolt. the captive nuts are usually 4 sided, as opposed to the normal 6 sided nut. a shifter spanner or vice grips usually work.
i'm not too sure with the sierra seat mounting points, but they may be through the floor and the nut on the underside of the tub, or they may be on the mount which is inside. i know what i'm talking about, but i dont have pics.

Not sure of the model they are a tight sqeeze but went in easily on rh side Had to drill two holes in front rail and bolt in and had to extend back mounts on floor , weld captive nuts for rear of rh seat

Did you manage to get these bolts out? I tried to remove my stock seats toda y and found some of the bolts are spinning in the captive nut but won't come out. Any tips on removing these?P_Byrne wrote:Hey all,

see if you can get a pair of plyers or a spanner on the back of the captive nut to stop it spinning , maybe even jam it up with srewdriver.mongrol wrote:Did you manage to get these bolts out? other option cut top of nut off with grinder other half should drop out ,replace with nut and bolt when refitiing

The captive nut isn't spinning. It's still nicely welded in place and looks pretty solid. The bolt itself is actually spinning inside the captive nut which probably means the captive nut is threaded too. Bit of a bummer really since I don't have a grinder to cut it off or a welder to put a new one on.
I was thinking I could possible use the jack underneath to put upwards pressure on the bolt which might be enough to get it threaded.

I think you mean stripped, ie the thread has been stripped out.
Has the bolt came part way out? If so you could put some pressure on it with a screw driver and continue to unscrew the bolt.
If not, go to bunnings buy a $15 grinder and cut the suckers off, get some high tensile nuts and bolts, 7/16 minimum I think, I would use 12mm. Run a 12mm drill through the captive nut and insert bolts.
