crane electronic ignition conversion kit

Post by viperguy »

who else has one of these absolute crappo dodgy kits fitted to there tb42 or other nissan petrol motor? when i went to buy a EI conversion kit every one raved at how good the crane kit was.. so spent the stupid amount they asked at Rocket Industries over other cheaper kits like phirrana and msd etc...

been about 8 months now and the whole kit self distructed. car stopped running smooth, popping and back firing no idle and under load was just crapp. off to the mechanics we go to see why. light sensor, pick up module and control box all gone to the dogs.

mechanic rang rocket to see what they can do and was basically told nothing... crane dont offer warrenty and that they are not a good unit and have loads of dramas in nissan patrols espesially. i called rocket myself and blasted them as to why all of a sudden they changed crane product from best to worst, and why if they had heaps of nissn specific probs they failed to tell me when they were told what vehical it was to be fitted to. was told i must not have told salesman as they all no not to sell kit for nissan patrol use. told the guy what i thougt of him and what i will be doin when i come down there and he decided a store credit would be a good idea.

now the fix..mechanic is building a bosch dizzy to replace my nissan patrol dizzy that will be full electronic. same as late model vehicals. picking up vehical tomorrow but was finished today. mechanic still testing and tuning but assures me running 1000% perfect and is feeling heaps better to drive than before dramas. feels heaps more responsive and willing to rev. hope this solves my dizzy/spark dramas for good now. spent a fortune in leads plugs kits etc etc to get this thing running proper...

will add details of mechanic and costings after i get vehical back. maybe if anyone else is interested in this mod they can give my guy a go..

I had the same installed into my GQ (well it was new in the truck when i bought it) and it shit itself in less than a year. I just went back to points and got that rotor extension thing and has been fine since.

So yea......those Crane ignition things must be crap

The Piranha I fitted initially didn’t like water. The Pertronix Ignitor I have now is ace.

a small run of sikaflex and a quickly folded up gal box fixed that  although the car in general doesnt see water as much as I'd like her to :?

Did you go to Crescent Motorsport or somebody else? Would like to know who because I would preffer taking the car to someone with experience with this issue. :?

cresent motorsports done the install on the crane kit and still do my gas tuning, but i used another mechanic to do the new dizzy set up. no probs with cresent motorsports, we were just given the dodgey run around with the crane set up.

got the car back yesterday arv and after a night out cruising and testing i must say the mav is a different car to drive. starts on the first click of ignition..no longer cranking for 5-10 seconds; revs long and strong and the pick up is awsum. idles nice. very happy.

A1 auto in cann st guildford is responsible for organising the new dizzy set up. nothing but praise. aldo the manager is a amazingly honest genuine guy (unheard of for a mechanic) and knows his shit. can do every aspect of mechanics, specialises in auto rebuilds and servicing. has a panel shop next door also. highly recommended.
