I HAVE $3000 AND NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH IT!! HELP!!

Post by Hardzy »

ihave a 85 lux which already has a 3 inch body lift and 2 inch spring lift.my question is that i just had my 21st and my parents gave me a $3000 gift voucher to spend at climax suspension in newcastle for more suspension work. the only thing that i could think of that i could use from there was the drop shackles. any ideas on what else i can do to the car driveline wise?

- Sell the lux, buy something bigger/tougher, and use the 3K to start building that up
or get
- Rockrawler gears
- lockers
- Bigger rubber
- Cruising ops; like long range tank, comfy seats, dual bat etc etc
- Roll cage
- Sell the gift voucher on ebay for like $2900 and get something else :D
- Diesel gas conversion, or straight gas if petrol, dunno what climax can/does do though :?

their website is www.climaxsuspension.com.au they have alot of good parts there but nothing that i could really use. i'm trying to convince them to give it to me at out of town 4x4 or somewhere where they sell other things besides suspension. climax does have a 4 inch lift for the lux which is $3200 which i'm thinking about which comes with everything and the drop shackles. so i'm leaning towards that. but will that be a wante of time? an extra 2 inch's wont be used that often as i havnt had to turn around at anything yet.

1/2 elliptic is what you already have. 1/4 elliptic means that one end of your spring pack is attached to your chassis and the other end is attached to your axle, and some control arms help with locating the axle. 3/4 elliptic means that the back of your existing spring is attached to another spring that is then attached to the chassis. both setups give more flex, but compromise on-road characteristics. see if you can get a coil conversion instead?

i have also been contemplating purchasing a 1jzgte motor which is out of the soarer. it is a 6 cyl twin turbo which has alot of torque and mid range power. dellow make a bellhousing to suit it so its just a matter of buying the motor and bellhousing, bolt the lot up and throw in the wires. (its a little more complicated than that but it is meant to be a very easy conversion for the lux. can anyone give me any ideas or feedback with this engine conversion as i want to try to have this car copmpleted within 2 months for a 4x4 cruise i wanted to go on. any and all help will be greatly appreciated

If leaving on a trip in just 2 months I wouldn't tackle anything major like a engine change.
Is there a time limit on the vouchers? If not, then take your time, go on the trip and deciede what , if you had it, would make the trip better.

Twin lockers, there is no other choice. Why spend money on suspension mods when down the track you’ll want better traction anyway? Lockers will improve your driving style if you’ve already learned how to crawl without them, no need for an engineer’s cert. & give you far more long term enjoyment than any of the above mentioned mods.

Lockers can be taken out of this truck and put in the next or parted whereas stupid suspension setups will only make you hate driving your truck on the road and offer very little in the way of return when you sell.

What other mod will return the vehicle’s driving characteristics to normal with the flick of a button

Personally Id see your parents to see if they can get there money back I wouldnt use the climax in Thornton again. Actually if he was on fire Id go to the servo and buy some fuel.

He is a rip off ,does a 1/2 arse job ,slow as all f**K .Says he does warranty but when you take it back ,says there is nothing wrong,he fitted my suspension and didnt fit everything that he quoted :bad-words: .I had a hugh argument with him there ,went home got the quote (that he said didnt have specifics on it) showed it to him and made him fit the parts when I got back.

Thinking this was a one off (and a mate talking me into going back) I had some mechanic work done ,after getting my car back home it had a water leak (radiator hose wasnt done up) oil cap was sitting on my air box, didnt put split pins back in my drag link  .

My mate had some rancho`s fitted to his car. after a week a noise came from the rear, had a look and the top nut was gone.Took it back and showed him,he then accused my mate of removing the nut himself .
