Need some new rubber for the GU, thinking of MTR's but want to know how they weare on the road and what sort of k's people expect or think they will get out of their set. Other option is a set of coopers, looking at muds as l can't be bothered putting the Claws on all the time and want to save them for comps.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Joe.

Hadn't considered X terains, might give Hobsy or Locky a call, heard they are a bit pricy though.
I thought the coopers were better than that?
More confused now,
i think the muddies have a 50,000 k warrany available. if they cost more, and do a great job, but last, it works out cheaper!

400 inches is over 10 metres.. You sure about this moose?? Or is it proportionate to what you have told your missus!!
my MT/Rs have about 8000km on them, including a lot of hard rock work and still look pretty new apart from a few gashes and what not.. The X-terrains are aparantely a much better road tyre, though??
i run a set of 35" copper ST's on th road and 35" boggers for fun.
the coopers seem to work well in most situations on road, they even handle some of the ruff stuff pretty well, they are not real good in clay, but they work pretty well in the shale and rocks we have up here.

Having had a set of Xterrains and now MTR's if you can afford the Xterrain you will be a lot happier.
The MTR are agreat value tyre, great for touring, but i found the Xterrain a lot better on road and offroad.
MTR are a tad noisy too, compared to all the other tyres I have had, but the are wearing well, were cheap, and make an excellent puncture resistant touring tyre.

my MT/Rs have 22,000 on them now - look like i will get about 60,000, at this stage will buy MT/Rs again for the 4 runner just in 35in varieties

Used to run Cooper STT's before sold them to a mate.
Reasonably good tyre off-road, self-clean better than a BFG but they are fairly soft. I ran them for about 10,000 and mate has prob put another 25,000-30,000 on them and they are just about shot. Too low for offroad and barely OK for on-road.
I definately hear good things about the PC X-terrains as a good allrounder if you want something more aggressive than a muddy ...
Cheers.

I have MTRs on my cruiser and have done about 10,000 on them so far. No sign of wear as yet appart from the odd scratch etc. A mate got 70,000 out of his last set. At 70,000 they were still legal tread, but well past their useful off road life. In rock, dirt, etc the MTR's are pretty good, but in mud they are not so good. They self clean well, but seem to fill quickly.
I'd buy MTR's again, and think that at the current wear rate, I will get about 50 - 60K out of mine.
Cheers

i run 33" kumho muddies - have for near 3 yrs, and nudging 50+ ks. - hope to get 60k. Done a fair amount offroad in different terrain, eg Emu Ck, L-cruiser, beach / creb track/ clay - no worries with em xcpt the bloody noise now. I'm sure they're louder than when i got em but u get that. Thinking off an AT next and looking at the Micky T MTX - any suggestions?

Lots of good arguments but you all ready have a set of claws so I dont see the need for a set of X-terrains when you are only trying to fill a gap in when you can be stuffed changing them over.
I wouldn't pay the xtra. MT/R matches your requirement pretty well. X-terrain would fill a gap if it wasn't at xtreme prices.
Wear? I have a set of MT/Rs 30,000km worn around 5mm. I was expecting to change every 12months but it will be closer to 2yrs.
