Fairleads for wire cable
Pros/cons of a solid fairlead versus a roller fairlead, my current roller fairlead has some play in the upper roller and pinched/caught my cable when I used it. I'm using a Steel cable.
Re: Fairleads for wire cable
My understanding is solid fairleads (hawse fairleads?) are only suitable for plamsa (rope). Wire rope will rip them to shreads/vice versa.saigo wrote:Pros/cons of a solid fairlead versus a roller fairlead, my current roller fairlead has some play in the upper roller and pinched/caught my cable when I used it. Saigo, for many years warn winches only came with cast iron fairleads and the roller was an optional extra.

What's the advantage of a roller over a hawse fairlead then? I assume there's a great deal less resistance when pulling at angles, anything else?
