The LSD in the back of my 80 series is well and truly shagged and Im currently looking for options. Spoke with a guy today who said he would overhaul it for about $300, and this will still only give me a LSD that will wear fairly quickly.
Other option is to shim it up. A mate in a hilux had his shimmed and it was nearly as good as locked, and this is where IM leaning at the moment. Just how easy is it to shim a 80 series LSD, OR, who knows someone who does it, and how much should i pay.
Other option is to go for a lockrite or similar.
Cheers
Pete

The overhaul/shimup will prob not last all that long. If budget allows you could look for an aftermarket LSD, Detroit have quite a range. Or , yeah, just get an ARB/Lockrite, depending on your preferences. Can't help you with prices, but in the long run, spend the money properly on the best option and you'll be happy...

Thats what I thought. A few mates have shimmed their diffs and they seem to either burn oil, or hjust dont work. Im leaning toward a lockrite at the moment. Cost is around $650 versus $1500 for air locker. I have lockrite in the front and have no complaints about them.
I have heardpeople say that Autolockers are not very good on road, but as always been from people with smaller cars. A few people I know with 60 series are very pleased with them and have no complaints about road handling of Lockrite in rear. Anyone else had experience with Lockrite in the back of a big vehicle.
Cheers
