In stock form, offroad, there won't be much in it. The Prado rear will probably flex better, but the Pajero's rear LSD (if it has one) will be better.

From memory, ARB have a rear difflock for the Toyota, but they definitely don't have one for the 2.8 Pajero. There is a factory difflock which could be fitted to the Paj, if you could find one.

The Pajero has a front difflock available, but I don't know about the Prado.

Pajero front ends are pretty tough. CVs rarely break, and I don't recall ever hearing of front diff issues. Prado? It's a Toyota... :P

The Prado engine was regarded best of class when it was released, but is a little dated these days - as is the Pajero 2.8 diesel.

Crawler gears are in development for the Pajero - I don't know about the Prado.

Prado has 159 litre fuel capacity, Pajero will be 92 litres.

At the end of the day, I think they're pretty evenly matched for most people's requirements. Buy the one you're most comfortable with, and you're less likely to have regrets.

Cheers,

Scott

Prado can get F+R Airlockers in my ARB Manual. None for rear of 2.8 Pajero.

Even so an LSD and a locker should get you most places you'd want to take either. If it wont then you're looking at the wrong 4wd in the first place IMHO.

The 2.8 TDI Paj is a good honest truck with a very strong drive train.
Slightly less power and torque than the Prado and marginally inferior offroad due to the Prado's better standard suspension travel (front and rear) and lower low range gearing.
However there are 3.15 t/case gears now available for the Paj along with front ARB and Lokka diff locks.
The only locker for the rear is to retrofit a factory one (if you can find one). ARB are looking into a rear one as well.
The factory lsd is pretty good anyway.
Considering the cost of these vehicles sensible buying would be the Paj and spend some on mods and you will still have plenty of change compared to the cost of the Prado.
Prado's are also a good truck but that front diff and weaker drivetrain really puts me off them.
The Prado has ARB lockers available front and rear.
There are also the usual mods like snorkels, bars, suspension kits etc available for both trucks so they are reasonably well catered for.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber"

Is the paj for you or your mate either way I could lead you in the right way with mods for the paj. I have also seen a few rear diff problems with prado's and toyota not warranty them.
