Yeah it happened in the Naracoorte/Apex 4x4 Challenge last weekend.Spike_Sierra wrote:yeah, deo's alternators are a bitch for mud ingress, timbo(rodeo)'s silocond the very small air tubes in the back of his after stuffing the brushes a few times, cant comment on how its going, dont think hes been in the mud yet.

There was about 4 suzi's in it too, they did really well.
I think nearly everyone suffered some sort of mud damage (45 competitors) mostly electrical.
Actually my alt doesn't have any tubes or vacuum etc. in the back (mines efi petrol) it was just the alt. fan sucking the crud through, not to mention the straw! (hay bale bunting everywhere) I had a water blind on but I should have removed the radiator fan The mudhole was about 900mm deep and about 15mt long!
There's a few pic's on 4wd monthly forum of the event>Competitions and Events>Naracoorte 4by Comp: who's going?
Anyway I pulled the alt apart and cleaned it all out, it works like new again now Haven't looked at the a/c yet
Definitely entering next year, it was a hoot!
I'll be better prepared too

Thanks. Cant say I noticed any though. It's a Denso alternator made in JapanSpike_Sierra wrote:if you take the back cover of the alt apart, you will see grooves winding around on a plastic part.this is what he closed off..
his is efi petty aswell
I think the a/c wouldn't work cos my battery was low on charge.
Everything kinda systematically shut down finally the engine as the voltage dropped.
Some kind of inbuilt protection system.
All seems fine now though
