Cplux,

I ran an EMS on my supercharged Discovery. Very easy to tune and reliable. EMS now have a new budget unit called the Stinger. Which I hear is very good. The website is http://www.enginemanagementsystem.com/ They are located in smithfield.

We have a micro-tech. It cost about $1,500 including hand set for tuning. Have found it a very good system. (Running it on a 4AGE in a sierra). Bought it about 2 years ago, so prices have probably gone up.

The stinger is under $1000 and can be adapted to any engine, via TPS or Map sensors. It is programed via a laptop.

Can the stinger ( or any other affordable system) handle the fuel and ignition for a dry plate nitrous ?
(My fuel systems constant flow not rising rate and the computer wants to lean it out )

I run a Microtech on my Civic and, for the money, I am very happy with it. If your interested PM me and I'll put you in touch with a guy that sells them cheap. I can also help you out with a tuner if you need one.

liam,

The Full EMS version (about $1500) definately can. I have seen it setup in this way. I would call or email Peter from EMS and ask if the stinger will. I had an ems setup to deliver more fuel less timing dependant on boost level and inject water into the intake between 9psi and 15psi, All this on a 3.9L rover v8.

We can also tune the micro tech on the go. There are two programmes available. (by that i mean you can have two different set-ups like one for racing & one for when you teenage daughter wants to drive the car). We were actually told by the guy we bought the computer off that it wouldn't run the car properly at road speeds. So even the "experts" get it wrong! What ever system you go for, try and learn for yourself as much as you can about efi & programming. Chad does all of our tuning & it means he cna programme the car for whatever conditions we are running in.

I 2nd this in my last car (Subaru Impreza RX) I had a wolf 3d installed and the "Experts" couldn't get the CC or Air con working let alone startinging the car on cold mornings... After many a $$ at the Dyno he gave up  I set out to learn how the thing worked and had everything that he couldn't get working running and tuned the car so well that I got about 15 - 20 more Kw out the Subaru...

I am going to put the Wolf 3D in my Rangie once the new motor has been run in. The Wolf 3d has external memory chips that can be programmed for different modes as well as built in engine immobiliser with PIN numer security (added bonus i guess) Turbo timer 2 Aux outputs blha blha blhaa...

IMHO if you want proformance from an EFI after market ECU's are the only way to go... and I don't mean those addon units that use the existing ECU that 'trick' the signals from the orig ECU. Also the piggy back ECU's cost just as much as the complete ECU's.

My 11 cents

I like the idea of being able to have different programs in the wold 3d and also the engine imob seems like a good idea to me.

anyone know where i can get a wolf 3d?? there are only a few places listed on website. I think its between one of these and a microtech at present

my brother's company car is a vn group a,5.0, with twin throttle bodys, vortech supercharger and kalmaker computer. the kalmaker is a modified delco computer, that you can program on the run via a laptop. he tunes it himself, and with the standard group a injectors, set on 100% duty cycle, has made 278kw at the tyres, at 4500rpm. about 5lb boost. after that it leaned out. with new injectors, on safeway fuel, setting it up so he could drive home, it went over 300kw. the delco computer is a very capable unit, and IMHO there is no need to change it if you are running a holden engine. i have seen twin turbo triple rotors run them with programable water injection with out a problem. you can even run an extra injector in the plenum if you want it to come on with boost. this is a car he drives for work everyday, not an undrivable hotty.

I can vouch for the kalmaker setup aswell (this prob aint really the best alternative for craig tho) but i know the guy that actually started up the kalmaker software i used to run an adjustable chip im my VN SS used to be able to control fuel and spark betweeon set variables ,this setup really worked benifits on the V6's .............

I wonder wat the next owners of my old car thought wen they cleaned under the seat and found a control box wired back into the computer  ......i put the original chip back b4 i sold it

As some people have already mentioned the Delco computer is very versatile. My previous vehicle was a Daihatsu Charade that was fitted with a Jap Import three cylinder twin cam turbo EFI engine. It used a Delco computer with a custom written Memcal (plug in chip that holds the program). Was dynoed at 75kW at the wheels running only 6PSI boost.

Multiple programs can also be written onto one chip and controlled by a switch. The best part is the computers are cheap from wreckers, as are the looms, parts are available from any Holden or Nissan dealer and almost any EFI place knows how to program them. I'm sure by now the software would be easily available for anyone with a lap top to do their own programming.
