Vacuum lines from Throttle Body - please help! Pics included

Post by drewe »

Hey all,

New motor in, but it won't idle under 1200! I am thinking the vacuum line setup also looks a bit wrong - so, thinking how you were all helpful folk, and this might also help some in the future - I took a photo....

Can someone take a look and tell me if they are right? Even a reference to 'swap 3 and 4' will be enough to get me going :)

Image

You can see most of the lines, but for the ones that can't be seen -

2 - goes to Vaccum advance main chamber
6 -goes to Vaccum advance sub-chamber
4 and 5 connect to the green connector at back - 4 to the left side

Thanks all :)

After much trouble the new motor is in and running (which proves the old one was kuputnik!).... I just need to add some gasket goo to the thermostat housing (it is leaking a little) and also redo the head cover gasket (the 'new' one leaks a little) and all good :) - May also need to do the exhaust join to the manifold, but I don't mind waking the neighbors :)

Yeah you definately have some issues going on there. Number 3 should be plugging in somewhere near number 1. Also there should be a line running over to the charcoal cannister on the drivers side gaurd. Ill take a pic of mine tomorrow and post it up.

Cheers

The service manual or HD-E engine manual has all the pics you need. ;)

THanks mate .....

My old one had the charcoal canister from the throttle body - this has an outlet at the back of the throttle body for it (F310 thing) - the motor is quite a bit newer than the car.... :)

Pic is welcome! I know it is wrong somewhere, but with 8 lines playing mix'n'match could take some time........

Got the manual in print and PDF (like, the real one!) - drawings are pathetic for most - the only one I can be sure of is the charcoal cannister (in the engine section anyway) - if there is a better pic somewhere...... In the 'replace engine' thingy it just says 'connect blah blah and blah' - about 8 things, with one bad pic :(

I know this is hindsight, but shoulda taken a pic b4 I stripped it out!

Yeh no dramas, mine had some idle issues when I got it back from the engine rebuild when I would put the aircon on. Turned out there was just 2 hoses back the front. Will post pic in the morning!

THe manual can be crap when it comes to vacuum plumbing - try in the emission control section - there's a much cleared diagram of where it all goes.
