rodeo 4EZ1 motor into LWB zook

Post by GQ4.8coilcab »

Anybody attempted this or done something similar. My oldman has this motor in his rodeo and its so torqey and would be an awsome motor for a zook. Still planning at the moment but im thinking of either bolting it to a vitara auto or use the isuzu manual and then use a jackaroo transfer case. Any suggestion would be great.

yeah there is one zook i know of with the 4ezi rodeo engine
rodifyed in ttc 2000 from memery ?? was from vic ?
he couldnt get the efi going & fitted a carby setup from 2l old school rodeo r200 engine
id assume it was recalibrateto suit 2.6litre 4ezi
he ran dual trans. rodeo 5speed & reduction unit (moded xcase)
then into the zook transfer case

also ran cutdown hilux axles & 35" bogers looked

hope that helps

specs
4EZI 1988-1992
88kw @ 5000 rpm
195nm @ 2600 rpm

4EZI 1993-1998
88kw @ 4600 rpm
201nm @ 2600 rpm

the vitara 2.0litre 4cyl would be a better option weight wise
but would cost alot more as a front cut

J20A 2.0litre vitara 4cyl --all alloy
94kw @ 6000 rpm
174nm @ 2900 rpm

We fitted a 4FB1 Isuzu diesel and matching 5sp from a gemini into a SWB 1.0lt hardtop zook.

Conversion was very very good even though the engine was a cast iron lump. Made the zook very stable and it climbed like a monkey due to the extra weight in the front end.

We mounted the motor and 5sp and only moved the transfer case back 30mm in total. Also had a nissan Exa turbo radiator modded to suit the motor.

It all fitted in the engine bay quite well and looked like it belonged there. Motor died but brother has all the hardware around to complete the install including 5sp engine mounts radiator etc if you are interested.

Will try and dig up some photo's of the conversion....

Sorry for the hijack, but would be interested in comments on the Vit 2litre motor, gearbox and transfer case as a possible swap into a Feroza. What are they like as a motor?

On the topic of the Deo donk, they can be VERY thirsty, so hope it's not for a DD.

Old man had a 98 rodeo 2.8td before the rodeo he has now. I assume that is a 4ezI..They are a great engine, especially on fuel. With over a tonne of tools in the back and a dual axle trailer loaded to the shithouse it still use to get a lil over 10km/l!

THe new 3l t/d rodeo's are acompletely different story, only just getting 8km/l with no load on at all. WHen loaded a bit its down to 6km/l

This maybe a little of the subject, but Matt Spry ran a 2.6 rodeo motor in a Gemini. Was set up with turbo, efi and traction control. Was good for 10s and wicked on the street. Think it made the 400hp mark too.

Sorry to get off track, but I reckon that it would be great conversion into a zook.

thanks guy,
The 5 speed rodeo box with reduction gears then up to a suzuki sounds good. Toysuzi, when you say modded xcase, was it out of the rodeo or was it a suzuki aswell. I.M.P.O.S.E ive seen the potential of these motors when they are turbo'd so thats why i chose it. I might strap a hair dryer on the side later on.
Cheers Julian

Have read a write up on Rods zook ages ago, think it was the rodeo transfer modded to go into a zook transfer, but i might be wrong ;) . Doubt anyone is thinking bout it, but ignore the Jackeroo t/d's. They are an absolute heap of C^%p. I used to work at a holden dealership, and they were nothing but trouble, as well as being pretty average on the road and fuel wise. The petrol redeo 4cyl are not too bad though, and as already said have plenty of power petential, pretty tough too.

from memery it was an early model jackaroo (4ZC1 - 2.0litre 1987-1991) gearbox & transfercase he just cut the bottom of the transfercase. to make a flat bottom (just like thay do with vitara transfer case) & ran the sierra transfercase behind that
all std transfer gear ratios though dont think there will be any need for future reduction

ill try & find the write up in australian 4x4 monthly for you.
just dont hold your breath. it may take a few days ;)

cheers daryl

PS
hes got a work shop down melb way ?? i think it melb
look out for a black zook with flames & a gq swb soft top
as there advertisment in the mags
