That is not good news at all, very unfortunate for who ever is involved.

Call me when you hear more.

At about 8.30 last night a range rover from NSW rolled
he was thrown out of his window and was crushed by the car
He died shortly after
The comp was then cancelled
not sure if it was the driver or navigator that died

yeah, we thought it was hard for the tuff truck guys to get insurance!
it will be interesting to see all the safety equipment get brought into the sport over the next 12 months or so. from what i have seen so far, though, the safety side has been quite slack.

ATECO

Post by AVGAS502@home »

Can I respectfully suggest that speculation or even discussing the incident serves no purpose at this stage and it should be left to the event committe for an official statement.

Surely out of RESPECT we can do that? For goodness sakes.

To those that feel I am "out of order" until there is something official - I wrote that after a huge night drive(Mt Skene inn 2 ft of snow all last night) with one Ph call in my ear!

I have respect - and of course I feel for those that have been impacted by the terrible event, but the sticking point from here on in is going to be how we deal with loss and how we ensure that such things are limited from occuring in the future to anyone competing.

So in short. Bite me and chill guys. Common sense will prevail and until we have an offical word - RESPECT TO ALL.

So that could be the end of comps in Victoria.. Either that or insurance costs will make entry fees $2000 per event.

Commiserations to all friends and families of the felled that died today at the ateco...

I hear that the navigator was throw from the vehicle and then crushed by the rangie rolling on top of him... I also heard that he wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident or it failed.

As far as discussing the issue on the forum I would dare say that we are all entitled to our own opinion and due to fact he died during a 4wd event I would say that there is no doubt in my mind that we are going to be effected by the incident in some way shape or form.

apparently he was wearing a belt, the car looked in good cond prior to accident, but could have been a component failure.

Lets leave the speculation there, its 24 hours since it happend, wait to see the facts..

I can`t express my condolences enough for the family and friends of both the driver and navigator of the 4x4 involved. My condolences also go out to all of the people involved in the organising of the Ateco.

In one way or another everydoby that was there helped out in some way, even to the point of just holding a torch for the ambo`s on their way down the hill.

I didn`t know him personly but I still feal that out of respect and the fact that I was there that I should and more then likely will go to his funeral.

Just to conferm yes it was the navigator.

having been a marshall at the event and helping carry mark down to the ambulance, the result is that nobody actually knows exactly what happened, so lets just stop these "chinese whispers" because there's a dood chance we're getting further and further from the truth.

My condolonces and best wishes to Marks family and Friends, and not to forget the driver who I was talking to on friday night. Lets hope this won't stop him from loving this great soport as much as he does.

I hope we can all be adults about this and just let is sit until the actual happenings are found. Thankyou.
