Dont i know about it.
100s have lower ratio 4.3 as opposed to 80s 4.1 ratio.
factory turbo 100s are the same as 80s.

All criuser from 1991 have hilux size front diffs

Factory turbo's have IFS so completely different but they are 4.1:1 ratio thou. The brakes have bigger rotors so the calipers are different as well. Hubs/FWH have 10mm studs on bigger P.C.D. Housings, axles C/V's are the same.

Sorry i should have clarified further. Specifically solid beam axel. In other words what makes the centre weaker than an 80 series - comapring 80 centre and 100 centre? Mainly ring and pinion i guess

With lower ratios the since the crown wheel cant be bigger they make the pinion smaller so less tooth contact ( less teeth ) and they are made from cheese witch dosn't help.

if they are made from cheese ,a simple solution would be to have them rehardned, but i dont think that works either, wont an 80 diff fit under the 100,they look very similar
johnz hows the nissan diff going and could you give me an idea on the all up cost

the ring gear on both have thesame ouside diameter dimension and inside diameter dimension but the 100 has 43 teeth opposed to the 80 having 41..........so.........the only way to fit another two teeth in there is to make the thicknesses of the teeth lands thinner....thats why they smash easier than 80's
Add to that the extra weight the 100 carries around, and the extra power all the motors make over the 80, and you have the big picture

Could you use the 100's crown/pinion 4.3 in a Bundera front carrier?

Not sure about the 80 but the 100 has a collapsible pinion spacer. With a bit of a flogging it weakens and starts to collapse, witha flow on effect of busting teeth. Solid spacers can be machined up for about $140. Have done about 20,000 kays off road, hard going with the solid spacer and have not busted a diff yet....... Pulling the centre out tomorrow to fix a leaking gasket, so it will be interesting to see what it looks like.
flog the ring out of it

Another mod to do is drill out the studs and fit the rear ones to the front diff...fixes leaking gaskets...
