Bored engine advice

Post by mongrol »

Hi folks,

I'm going to see this car tomorrow and have a query.

http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales ... istance=25

The engine is apparantly the normal 1300cc bored out to 1600. This to me seems like quite a large bore for a small engine (but I'm not a mechanice). What are the risks involved with this? How much more does it stress the engine? Is there an issue with not getting replacement parts if it goes pop?

Any advice appreciated.

Um.. its the original 1300cc engine which has been bored out to 1600cc. I assume this means the block, head, mounts etc.. are all original. It just either has a wider bore, or a taller stroke.

I belive that Suziworx or similar sell a 1500cc Kit for the 1300 motor, as far as I am aware there is no way of making a 1.3 a 1.6 without spending mega$$ (would be WAY cheaper to install and enginer a 1.6)

There is definately no way that its a 1.3 bored to a 1.6, as the cylider walls would be extremey thin, and the motor would be highly prone to overheating.

Ask for the engine builder's name and contact details so you can ask exactly what WAS done.

Yea mate according to that post, it seems to have a 'rebuilt 1600' in it.

Hmm, bloke still insists its a bored out 1300 to 1600. After telling him that that couldn't be so we settled on not knowing what it was. Certainly looked like a standard 1300 unit so perhaps it had a 1500 kit or something on it. Dunno, either way I bought a different one instead. w00p!

Should have checked the engine number. that says engine capacity. G13 or G16
