Has anyone attempted to replace the rear wheel bearings before on a Paj??
When I removed the snapped axle, the wheel bearing was absolutely shot. The axle came complete so I did not bother to the do the bearings at the time (plus it looks a little complex). In the next few weeks I want to replace both sides though. Have started making the tool to press the axle and bearing out and just want to know if anyone has any hints/tips.
Have read both the Haynes and Gregory's manuals and it sounds like a pretty cool job.
Drill this - cold chissel that

Yes I have, it's not too hard and typical of semi floater rear axles.
The trick is to grind a notch into the bearing locating collar deep enough so the rest can be cold chiselled away. If you go too deep you can start grinding into the axle and you don't want to do that. So care is needed here. Then it's just a matter of pressing the old bearing off and then pressing the new bearing and collar on (remember to pack bearing with grease). Check out thosae inner axle seals while your at it as well.
Once you have done it once it's a piece of piss the next time.
Oh and you will definitely need a hydraulic press for this job (we have one at my work).

I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
Since my original post i have snapped the other side axle aswell so i now have "new" bearings on both sides (new to me but their history is unknown).
Feel free to flame me ........... but I have been told not to grease these bearings as they shold be picking up oil from the diff housing.
