Fixing rust spots

Just fixed a couple of small rust spots on my truck, but I'm not happy with the result. Does anybody have any tips on how to get a better more professional finish?

Here is the process I followed:

- Sand back affected area to bare metal
- Clean with thinners.
- Apply rust converter and clean.
- Mask off repair area and apply 4 thin coats of primer/filler from spray can
- Feather sand back to create even finish.
- Mask off slightly larger area and spray top coat.

The problem I have is the top coat I sprayed on does not blend well into the existing paint. How can I get a better blend so the repair is not so noticable?

when you apply the colour do not spray out to the tap line...that will give you a nice sweet line of new paint, thats why it doesnt blend all that well.

and when you are trying to bleed the new paintwork into the excisting paint, put lighter coats around the edges...then maybe a light cut/polish will help bring the two together a bit smoother.

But if the new paint isnt matched properly, the new repair will stand out like the proverbial no matter what you do.

Definately hit up the edged of the paint job with some polish. Polish very lightly sands the paint back which as long as the colours match, should allow them to blend into each other.

Mmm thanks guys, I must admit the paint I used isn't properly matched. I'll get some of that coloured polish or cut n shine and if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to get some properly matched paint are re-coat it.
