GQ & GU custom 4" snorkles and front mount intercoo
GQ & GU custom 4" snorkles and front mount intercoo
Hi everyone,
A few people have asked me if I had a fitting kit for the front mount i'm selling so i've deceided with a mate we can probably frabicate a few kits to sell and would like to get some further interest.
Our aim is to have the following.
Front mount kits for factory turbo GU's i.e. just bolt in front mound and we supply all the fittings and pipes.
GQ front mount kits but these might be a little bit harder as many people have different turbos but we can look at this.
GQ stainless steel snorkle 4"
GU stainless steel snorkle 4"
With this we are considering have to option a base finish or we could girnd out/polish so you dont see the weld marks anyone interested in the later?
Would like to know some feedback and what might be more of a demand to make.

Will include intercooler trying to work it out at the moment.
A few people have been trialing the cheaper front mount intercooler so were seeing how they if they can withstand the competition scene we will look into them for our kits.

I would buy a SS GQ snorkle but it would need to be priced close to the $400 dollar mark because a person buying all bits full markup + paying small job labour rates (high) for welding or bending etc comes to around $200 to $250 dollars.
If they can be priced at a cost that might turn the head of those who will not pay the extra markup just because it's to suit a 4x4 as they can do it themselves. At a guess multiples more would be moved IMO.
Also consider an aftermarket Donaldson etc aircleaner full fitment or kit minus the aircleaner only, so a person has the option of high flow WITH quality engine protection ATM there is nothing on the market that does both.
Neither of these are available yet otherwise I would already have fitted both, the safari snorkel is too restrictive even for a 4L N/A engine IMO and all the filter options for good flow also suck way too much dirt at the same time, something you migh want to think about anyway.
cheers fnq

*JUST LUV IT* 96 GQ LWB TD4.2, Cav, Kings, Dobinsons, Motorguard, Enginesaver, 400 pro, Cooper ST's (rolls eyes), fleetguard oil filters, Delo 400 engine oil, Delo ESI gearbox oil and an RTC.
What product are you intending to fit to the top of a 4" ss snorkle.
Have you checked out whats available to fit onto a 4" pipe, cause I am in that process now and I cant seem to find a Air Ram to fit. Donaldsons smallest is 6.06" and the Safaris dont go that large
Would be interested to here your response

With in reference to the cost of the snorkles they havnt been confirmed as of yet, i particularly wont be making the snorkles myself someone else will be when i was getting qoutes for snorkles they were upto $800 which i thought was quite expensive.
were going to be doing a jig on a GQ and a GU very shortly all the snorkes wont have rubber bends in them so they wll all have to be tiged up.
So i dont know what the materials are going to cost us then his labour.
For the air boxes not sure what we are going to run entirely either custom make one or running a donaldson plastic airbox with interchangable ends.
Hopefully with in the next 2weeks we have something to show

Yes we will run them up the a-pillar no there will be no mesh to stop leaves and what its generally not an issuelegsx1 wrote:So you would run them up the A pillar with a bend at the top so they just turn on to the roof.
Do you cap the end off with mesh ? to stop the leaves etc being sucked in

My local truck exhaust place sells these, they have shops in QLD, VIC, SA and NSW.

Out of interest for some people with the GQ snorkles would you prefer to use existing holes say from the safari units which are near the headlights or you prefer it to come closer to the A-Pillar.
The reason being there is shorter pipe and less chances of this being damaged.

Some people dont need to flow crap loads of air. They just need to flow abit more than a std 3" snorkle. But dont want the clearance issue a big arse 4" snorkle can have.morkz wrote:It would cost alot more and i couldnt see the benefit 4" snorkle is more than enough for most applicationsGRINCH wrote:also might be worth looking at doing twin 3" snorkles

snorkels
i have 2 x 3" on my current gq. but will be looking for the intake diameter of a 4" when i get a td ute. if you do the math, 2x3" is only slightly more volume then 1 x 4".
all up these cost me just under $400, did the work myself, but bought i couple of tools to help me out.
cheers

A question about the GQ f/m intercoolers: would the a/c condensor have to be removed to fit one? I like my air conditioner and there isn't much room between there and the grill or does it go between the rad and fan?
cheers

Goes between condenser and grill. If to large the grill may need to be trimed. Theres no where near enough room between Engine fan and radiator. As I have had the blades hit the radiator as it is.
I am in the same boat. heaps of grunt would be nice. But I aint losing the A/C. Spend to much time in the car not to have it. So I am going to try and get away with minor triming of the back of the grill. I will also debadge it.
