Is a turbo suposed to whistle
Hi all...Just got my tubo overhauled,I now hear a little whistle on boost. Is this normal?..I never heared it before.
PEACE...
different whistle when it is unbalanced. go to the street drags and tell me if you can here a turbo whislte on a 200 grand turbo skyline motor whislte. every turbo will unbalance when pushed to its limits.
the whistle is air disturbance, much like the 'wocca wocca"(thump thump thump thump) of a helicopter, you cant get rid of it unless it doesnt spin very fast (until it is under strain, i.e. boost, heavy acceleration). most of the spool is from the exhaust housing wheel as it is spinning with a big pipe going straight out the back of the car where as the compressor housing has the air filter attached.
whistle isnt bad, but when it changes from the whistle your car normally has it is bad, or if the whistle goes away all of a sudden while driving hard somewhere, look out the back of the car for a couple of pieces of turbo.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
the greater the whistle the less efficent for a given output in kw. although the sound would prob consume less than 1 kw. I have heard of some fellas filing the blades to make a greater whistle
