99 Rodeo Dual Cab Stereo

Any ideas how to get good sound in a 99 dual cab?

Ive added a Pioneer mp3 deck, still running the standard speakers in the front doors and no rear speakers.


Ive got 2 amps left over from the stereo in my old car that I can use.

Any ideas would be great.

Well I have a 1997 dual cab Rodeo. What I did was replace the 4in in the doors with better speakers and put tweeters where the dash meets the windscreen and pillar. Held on with yellow tack (Blue tack doesn't like the heat )
Then I fitted two 6x9 speakers in an open enclosure behind the back seat. I have since removed these because I like to pull the back seat out entirely and mount my fridge there. The 6x9s got in the way.
You can fit a boxed 10in sub behind the seat with the amp. I was going to do that but never did.
Apparently you can also fit 5in speakers in the standard front door holes with some cutting. However I had a set of 4in and a set of 5 1/4in. The 5 1/4s wouldn't fit so I went wth the 4in I already had.

I use a Pioneer head unit with a 6 disc stacker. I've had this in my last 3 cars and it is still going stong after 7 years. Might leave it in when I sell this car though and get a new stereo

I have put 6.5" speakers in the front doors but I had to do some trimming to the door trim panel and inner skin to fit. I wanted to get the speakers as close to the inside as possible to prevent any fouling inside the door. I still retained the original speaker cover on the door trim though.

Like Utemad I put 6x9 speakers behind the rear seat. One on each side on an angle facing the interior through a small gap between the rear pillar and the seat. They only JUST fit that way but I get the full sound coming through. I had to make some boxing to keep them in position.

The amplifiers are also fixed behind the rear seat in between the 2 speakers but my subwoofer wont fit there. I just put it in the tub occasionally.

At the moment the amps are connected to the main starter battery but when I get an auxillary one they'll connect to that.
It's a lot of time consuming and fiddly work but well worth the effort for the sound.

i had northfield make up pods to put 6x9s in the rear doors came up really good and didnt cost much about $100 for the pair considring they had to custom make them as they hadnt done it before plus trim to match color

I got a bargain. A friend of my brothers had a Pioneer KEH-P8650 (tape with cd changer control) headunit and a 6 disc Pioneer CDX-630S stacker. Total cost $25. Yes $25!!!
Found a mod to add an AUX in to the IP-Bus for the changer, and because the table for the changer was already cut, just tapped into this.

I added a 3.5mm stereo plug an 2 RCA into the back of the glove box, so I can plug in a MP3 player / iPod / PC etc.

Whilst I had the stereo out, I hooked up a Nokia CK-7W advanced car kit, and hooked it into the Mute line on the new headunit.
Picked it up off ebay for $165 (without cradle and antenna coupler)
Got the coupler for free from a mate, and got the cradle from the Nokia shop for $45. Finally a 73cm 7dBi high gain antenna for $64, so all up cost me about $100-150 less than retail.

I've got my eye on some 5.25" speakers to go in the front doors, and the rear already has some Kenwood 2ways.

Finally the new Pioneer TS-SW124D slim line sub should hopefully fit behind the rear seat in a custom box.

I've been trawling ebay for a D-Class mono Amp and a 4channel amp. MIssed a few but there are plenty of options out there. (generally the Jaycar Response ones are good)

Personally I couldnt stand listening to a subwoofer in or behind the back seat.
A young workmate had 2 in the back of his extra cab and I found them annoying, maybe it was just the volume he had them at, it overpowered the music and gave me a migrane
That's why I just have the 6x9's in the back, with a good amp powering them they have plenty of bass and dont lose any sound quality through the small gap between the seat and pillars.
I only use the sub when we are stationary somewhere e.g. fishing at the beach etc. I can take it out when I please, with the canopy windows open it sounds the goods. I might even port the tub into the rear of the cab one day for a bit of doof doof.
It's all disconnected now anyway, getting ready for a dual battery set up.
Deep cycle in the back to power the amps and camping acc's.

I have four 6" round Pioneer speakers + one little 10" Kenwood subwoofer. The amp is behind the passenger seat. Now with the woofer fitted I have a little more of bass (what I wanted), not enough DOOOOF DOOOFFF....but it works good.

If you flick a switch on the back of the head unit the rear (???) RCA outputs turn into inputs.

I have an old Pioneer tape stereo 45Wx4. I plug a pendrive and/or a cd player...old but good Pioneer. Whatever, I want to replace it by a newer one 52Wx4, cd/dvd, mp3 player...
