How hard can it be??
As some of you know I need a recov point on the front end of the Patrol. have been to a couple of different places. First was ARB, the guys said $100 bucks including the hook. I said great but I can't do it right this moment, I will organise it soon. Two weeks later I ring back they say the guy I spoke to has left and that they will have to have it back in and re assess it again and they decide whether they can do it after all. Oh and not for another week or two.
went to extreme 4x4 and the guys says he hasn't done an MQ before, he wants to charge me $400 to do it and even then I have to sign a waver because he won't guarantee the strength of his work.
I have the tools to do this myself but being a safety thing I don't want to do it myself simply because I can't be 100% certain that I will do it to the best strength.
what have other people done??

I'll give it a go......

I would much prefer to keep my Bullbar, I think that's half the prob. is there any hooks etc that the hook itself sits above/below where it bolts on??blkmav wrote:Get a factory chassis mounted hook from a wrecker. Mine had been removed to fit the bullbar. $20 from Halls.
does the factory one allow for the bar?

"was" being the operative word ??? meaning you can't send me any photo's??
I am thinking that I may be able to make a hole in the bullbar if I weld in some re-inforement, that way I can still use that point but it would be untidy. was hoping there may be some different types of hooks or ideas about changing the bullbar bolts and mount it to the bullbar ???? I don't know, I just wanted to do it through a store. Anyone who has seen my patrol knows I am happy to dodgy things up but there is a difference between a crappy looking snorkel and a recov point. Not somthing you compromise on.

This is an aftermarket hook for a GU, the GQ mount is the same

Manells are apparently the distributor for these now. So maybe call Manell Motors if you're in Sydney, otherwise they are on ebay for $55 each, click on link below:

Sorted.
Hey thanks for the good ideas, both of those end options would have worked well. But the end result was easier.
Went into the wreckers today, found a factory one. Three bolts (even though it was a bit stuck fast by the re-arranged bumper)
$5 at the counter (didn't even bother trying to bargain that price down)
3mm adjustment to the B/Bar and a bit of wd40 to help clean the captive nuts in my own chassis and she bolts straight in.

I reckon all you would have to do was rio the rear of the bar so they wont pull through. Glad to hear you have it sorted and cheaply tooberetta wrote:Good work, that is a much better option than the eyelets mentioned above. I have them on my bar and have nearly ripped them out while winching, so for my set up they're no good, they have to be very carefully thought out.
Nope - I have 6mm plate 10cm x 10cm behind mine and they are as close as I could get to the chassis mounts. My bar has dents from the eyelet base just from holding the hook tight. I may one day use them for a double line pull but i would never ever snatch from them.pongo wrote:I reckon all you would have to do was rio the rear of the bar so they wont pull through.
