just had the engine rebuilt by cw enigines and taken it for a run today up the black spur to narby, looking for fishing spots, had to swing a u-e on t a logging track, went to far and couldn't get outa the gutter. locked the hubs and went low range, back kept spinning no front wheel drive.mmm weird so went forward and hit it harder in reverse and got out. unlocked the hubs and headed home puzzled.
Had a look under the car when got back to civilisation, hubs locked low 4 front shaft isn't turning, same for 4high which has the vaccum switch.
Would they have just stuffed up the vacum lines when the motor was out? causeing no front drive? i would of thought that low range was activated by lever not vaccum???
Also there is no 4wheel drive light on the dash that usually light up when u stick it in high 4 or low 4.
i also know i had 4wheel drive the day before i dropped it off too.
there are no bad noise's either.

Yeah as the guys said looks like the vac lines havent been connected.
On the other issue I always understood that if you just engaged the Low Range lever you were doing just that, only changing the drive ratio in the T/C. The T/C was not locked or 4WD engaged only until the button was pushed on the dash. Im 99% sure this is how the Bundy worked

it sounds the same as a f70 rocky, the button and the lever are both vaccum it is just that u dont need to press the button for 4 wheel drive if you have it in low. this still uses the vaccum. when u push the button see if u can here it click, if it clicks then it is a vaccum line, if it doesnt then it is the solenoid..... thats the cause and solution to most of our transfer problems
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
you don't get the light because it's not going into 4WD. the way it works is, the dashboard switch and the low range switch are in parallel - when either one or the other or both are activated (ie if you put it in low or press the dash button, or both), the front drive engage solenoid valve is activated and vacuum operates the diaphragm on the transfer case. the 4WD light is lit by a second switch on the transfer case, and it will only come on when the front drive is engaged. it should be pretty easy to fix yourself, the 4WD/2WD solenoid valves are on the firewall or inside the RH fender, on the engine side they will both go to the same line, on the transfer case side the lines will go one to the top and one to the bottom of the diaphragm wich is on the front right of the front drive housing.big bundy wrote:it goes in tuesday, they said they will fix it, i don;t get the 4wd light up on the dash that i used to when i through the 4 wheel drive stick into lowrange.
cool tip: disconnect the low range switch on the transfer, then ONLY the dash switch engages the front drive. Disadvantages: none. Advantages: you can use low range, 2WD for sharper turns on the trails, and for lauching boats, steep hills and manueverations on the road, really slow traffic etc etc.
