Cargo Rack

Post by bluecraka »

Any one know where to get a reasonable priced cargo rack that will clamp onto existing rola roof racks. Or has anyone made one. Looked at the rola ones and they are just a wire cage, I would not like to tie put too much strain on those. Looked at what Rhino has and they seem to start from about $450 which I think is rather pricey.

I made mine by welding some mesh to a frame made of 20mm square tube- it's rigid enough if you weld extra tube down the middle or two length wise at 1/3 and 2/3 across the width :?

Adomw,

Was it Aluminium or steel you used. I would like an aluminium one, for its lightness compared to steel which would make it a hell of a lot easier to take off and on.

If Aluminium, where do you source it from and any idea on cost. Sorry if question sound stupid, complete novice with materials.

I'd like to use ali too but I can't weld the stuff (cant afford a MIG or TIGwelder)- so I use steel

The thing I made (as described) is light enough to handle

I can offer you no advice about ali, sorry mate

Aluminium is a bitch to weld if you don't have much experience, I am planning on making a steel one for my 93swb. I already have a rollarack luggage basket which is fine (well after i ditched their mouting brackets which are used to connect it to the existing racks, and made my own.).
