torque rod

Post by roverlux »

Just have a quick question, removing the torque rod (hilux) completley would give better flex but what is the ride like on road?? has anyone removed there torque rod on there off road trucks that may see 10k's on the hwy to get to the trail without and worrysom braking/steering probs??

I have taken mine off but have not been on road yet, and considering i live on a highway i have to go straight from my driveway to 100klhr!! dont wanna leave the highway on the roof or something!

Cheers, Joe.

The primary reason for the torque rod is to stop bump steer.

apparently removing the torque bar completely is illegal ( as per the mermaids) but as per the previous post.... bump steer etc..... and the fact that you are prolly removing it due to lift and or larger tyres then it is prolly illegal anyway....( in sunny qld)... i removed mine to lengthen it and never put it back on.... didnt even know it was gone really....

my $0.02

cheers

don't do it.

Way too scary.

The torque rod stops axle wrap.
As soon as you use the brakes the diff rolls forward without the torque rod on and pulls the car heavily to the left. it'll happen quicker than you react and end up off the road before you know it.

Copy that, leaving the torque rod off sucks ass, yeh it gives you "fully sick flex" but it will also help you steer into the magnet trees when you have to hit the brakes hard.

Hardly worth it. ;)

torque rod

So why is it that when u change to hi-steer or crossover steering u throw out the torque rod? it it cos the steering is pushing/pulling a different direction?

I've had mine off for about 3 1/2 years & no probs. Tho i'm running parabolics up front. I think these help the diff from rotating on braking.

Because its not needed, the diff rotation doesn't have any effect on steering now because the steering draglink is side to side and not fore-aft.
Have a good look at the factory setup one day and imagine in your mind the diff rotating under braking force and picture what the steering will do without the rod in place.

That, and the torque rod would simply get in the way of the new link. ;)
