Hi all
I currently own a 2003 Hilux with a SAS conversion and running 35's with 4.88's and the list goes on.....
Now i want to get some more horses out of the motor, now i was thinking of getting a Safari DTronic or DPunit? which one is better? also going to get a 3" exhaust as i will increase the turbo to about 10 to 12 psi? now intercooler i don't have but i don't want to cut a hole in me bonnet as its another place for dust to get to the motor.
Will the Safari Dtronic or Dpunit affect my turbo adjustments in anyway?

I would steer towards the DP chip as it is adjustable, so with the increases in airflow that you are doingthe only way to get more power is by adding more fuel. At least you will be able to match it properly. You will have to watch out for overboosting, this may log a fault code and possibly put the vehicle into a limp mode (restricted power) until the fault isnt present on the next key cycle.
An egt sensor would be common sense to fit as well. 2 3/4" is all that necessary for the vehicle, but replace the dump pipe, its quite restrictive.

The 1kz-te runs factory 12-13PSI boost.
To boost it up to say 15PSI you will have to trick the map sensor as the computer will take out fuel over 15PSI.
WHAT TO DO:
1. 3 inch pipe from turbo flange down to 2.5 inch.
must run a straight through mufler as a turbo 4 cyl sounds crap.
(don't expect that sweat sound of the cruisers and patrols straight through 3 inch)
2. Put on a boost controller and set to max 14 PSI this will help spool up
3. Fit an intercooler.It is better to go top mount as the front on the Hilux is limited for space and it's hard enough trying to keep a 1KZ-te cool without more stuff in front of the radiator.I have fitted a Prado top mount and works well at cruise speed.
4. Get an aftermarket chip but get one that does not just bump up fuel but does map a different fuel curve over the rev range.Make sure it is adjustable.
5. get yourself a new turbo.Use a CT26 compressor housing (landcruiser) and a CT20 (surf) exhaust housing.Do not modify your turbo as the CT12B will fly to bits over 16PSI.
6. Fit a pyrometer so you know what is going on.Make sure you fit it before the turbo so you get an acurate reading.
7.Don't blow anything up!

I don't think your mate has looked hard enough.my mate has a 2002 lux 3.0td he could not find anyone who makes a intercooler for it
Denco are doing a Air/Water kit
ARE also do a Air/Water kit
OR
Do what I did and get an intercooler and plumbing from either a
Toyota Prado or the KZN185 Toyota Surf.
Go down to the local nissan dealers and purchase the top mount bonnet scoop for a GU.
Thought about the Air/Water thing but to bad if it gets a hairline crack
in it and floods the deisel with water , HELLO CON RODS ! I still do not trust them on a highly vibrating diesel.

sorry to tell you this but the 1kz-te does not have 12-13psi boost it only has a range from 7-9 psi how i know is the 1kz-te manual tells me also alot of other people have told that have these motors, max psi 16 psi it cuts out at 16psi how i know is because a mate has tried it on his turbo the computer does this, from what i have gathered only the imports overheat not the aussie 1kz-te.Hales231271 wrote:The 1kz-te runs factory 12-13PSI boost.

Thanks anyway i have planned all this just want to see what else i can do, as for water/air intercooler i will not be getting one of these as you pointed out

The later Thailand delivered Hilux turbos have a range from 12-13 PSI.
Put on a good gauge on a Thialand delivered Hilux and measure the boost.
The two different types also run a different computer.
The Japan delivered Hilux runs a computer very similar to the Prado.
Yes the computer cuts out the fuel at around 15 PSI so you have to trick the map sensor.
Anything over the 16PSI and the turbo will fling to bits anyway.
The CT12B turbo has a very small shaft compared to the CT20 and CT26 series.
