This has got to be a cheap option for someone with a TD42 engine/gearbox, associated wiring and the skills to do the conversion and make it work? Not sure what the RD28-T engine and box would be worth, but offloading those would help to recover some of the costs?

maybe the gqoption could be done? they are the same chassis arent they? you could buy a rolled gq shorty for next to nothing then put the gu body on it.
i think it would work?

I think the 15yr has changed again hasent it. it turned into a nothing newer than 1988, unless it meets some crap requirements.bogged wrote:ADR compliance and the 15 yr rule I think it is.jo_shnz wrote:why cant u rego it in aussie?
But really if we can get R32 GTS-Ts which is only 2wd compared to an aus spec R32GTR (godzilla). We should be able to get a SWB GU.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
the reason for them not being allowed is that nissan allready import GU patrols into australia , so go and buy one of them, there is not difference in the governments eyes between a lwb and a swb
this is what i got told when i looked into importing one, the only real way to do it is to import it in parts then rebuild it onto a GQ chassis that is currently registered as buying a car from auction and using the body the car will not pass a VIV.
or cut up a LWB patrol and go through engineers (good luck!!!)

there's no chassis number on patrol chassis', only the vin number on the body. so why wouldn't you just bring one in and say you put it on a GQ chassis without actually doing a thing? you'd probably still need a GQ body so they could cancel out the number off that to keep themselves happy, but at least you are running a complete, nice, new, GU setup..
Is this true? The Haynes manual says the chassis number is stamped on the front of the left hand side chassis member, adjacent to the radiator. I gave up looking for the chassis number when I bought my mav.Wendle wrote:there's no chassis number on patrol chassis', only the vin number on the body. so why wouldn't you just bring one in and say you put it on a GQ chassis without actually doing a thing? you'd probably still need a GQ body so they could cancel out the number off that to keep themselves happy, but at least you are running a complete, nice, new, GU setup..

The VIN on my Mav Chassis is dodgy as. Its a welded plate on the off-side rear looks like it has been done with a hand engraver.bj on roids wrote:they are on there but its very faint
Where as both the Patrol SWB's I have had have been stamped on the top of the near side chassis rail. Just in front of the left engine mount.
