Do you have a body lift?
Do you have lower than stock transfer gears?
It can be caused by the rubber boot pushing on the stick if you have a BL. This can be solved by either bending the stick or sometimes a bit of cutting of the boot and/or the hole in the floor enlarged.
It can also be caused aftermarket transfer gears that are cut without the correct taper as factory gears. This is normally evident going down steep hills using engine braking and having it pop out of gear (scarey shit it has happened on my Lux). This can be solved by fitting a heavier detent spring to the transfer case.
Or you could always use an ocky stap or simmilar on the stick if you are a redneck
check all your motor and gearbox mounts. If any are broken the sticks may be hitting the hole in the floor when the motor torques over goin up the hill and forcing them out. If not your probably looking and worn internals in the box. What you driving?
my 60 (before bl) used to love jumping out during hll climbs, kinda scary when your going up a steep hill and then all of a sudden rolling backwards down it! I checked all my engine mounts but they looked good.. Turned out whenever i gave it heaps the gearbox mount would move (it wasnt split but soft) and allow the stick to hit floor... i'd check your gbox mount bolts and the rubber before pulling the box out

A mate has a 75 series ute and after rebuilding the trasfer case, it used to jump out of low - very disturbing!!
After pulling it down again, the same thing happened. Turned out the non genuine gears weren't cut properly (or something) got his money back, went genuine and hasn't had a problem since. I'm 90% sure I remember where the gears came from, but I won't name them as I'm not 100% sure...

That is exactly what is happening with my Lux.
Have read on Marlin that some reduction gears are cut wrong but they have a fix for it, a heavier detent spring. I have yet to get one and try it.
