The Silverstone Amazing Race- a unique 4x4 event
Just like the TV series, but no one gets eliminated. This is the "must be in" event that Navrun 4wd Events have added to their already diverse 4wd events calendar.
Who can participate? Anyone with a 4WD or AWD vehicle can join in the fun
Read on for details.
Although titled the “Amazing Race” this event is not a speed event or a race as such. Points are calculated on your ability to navigate, answer questions, etc.
What do you require for such an event?
Firstly, it is one 4wd/Awd vehicle per team, although there is nothing wrong in pairing up. But all vehicles must have a GPS, UHF radio, basic recovery equipment, and a great sense of adventure. Winches and diff locks will not be required.
Can anyone do this event?
So long as it is reliable, virtually any 4WD & AWD will be up to this one. There should be no need for scratching or damage and even off road camper trailers can be dragged along. There are no classes or limitations and all we need is for drivers to be licensed and vehicles to be registered. Road tyres are also acceptable for this event.
What is supplied?
Other than an excellent time, all maps, notes, etc are provided for each vehicle. A free BBQ, alcohol & drinks provided presentation night as well.
Where do we start and when?
The start will be near a town/locality of the Big Desert Region of Victoria during the Easter Weekend (14-17th April, 2006).
What prizes are for offer?
Prizes and trophies are awarded up to 10th place. Presentation of awards will be made on conclusion of the event around a huge bonfire. 1 set of Silverstone tyres are up for grabs for the winner as well.
Over 4 days you will experience the Sunset Country & the Big & Little Desert in Victoria's Nth West. This will be right up there with the greatest 4wd adventures you can have with family and friends. It is not a timed event. Road tyres are very suitable for this event as well.
There is one base bush camp so you don't have to pack up each morning and take everything with you. No night activities other than social campfires. We will have games & prizes for the kids. The course layout will accommodate service stations/general stores for refuelling and supplies. LPG no problem.
Further details of this event and other Navrun 4wd Events can be found on the web at www.navrun.com.au or telephone Rudi Paoletti on (03) 9789 6985

Less than 4 weeks to go guys. If you want a no stress, enjoyable event you can get away from it all, and also bring the wife and kids then give it a go.

Count Down
OK - Time to start getting excited.
I have arranged for the week off leading up to Easter and have a stack of great ideas for you.
You had better watch the TV series and take notes.

Picture this, you are on remote desert trails, sandy scrub country stretching beyond the horizon. And to think it's just a few hours from Melbourne. You have a GPS reference and you are following the trails as best you can according to the GPS. The kids are in the back looking for answers and treasure hunt items. GPS says you are red hot close and there it is, some bunting in a tree just off the beaten path. At the base of the tree is an ice-cream container and in it a Polaroid camera and a picture of Hobzee perched on a tree stump. Your mission is to find the stump, perch there yourself and take the same photo. Oh look, another GPS reference and off you go to your next location and mission. At each point your mission is different - you might have to collect something, record or count something or maybe there is a crew of marshals and you have a novelty special stage. This is starting to sound like a very popular TV series ... Funny about that! At the end of the day you can relax in a base camp with games and Easter egg hunts for the kids. The navigation is not designed to be tricky or complicated and the terrain can be tackled by any well maintained all terrain vehicle, afterall this is fun family stuff.
Just come out of the Big Desert, spendning a few days setting up in there. Brilliant weather, 33 deg yesterday, they haven't had rain for a while.
In Nhill at the moment going to the Little Desert to finalise course.
Good turn out for the event so far looking forward to it. Hobzee and I have got some excellant special stages set up as well.
So if you haven't made plans for Easter get yourself down here. Be at the Nhill Caravan Park before 8.30am on Good Friday or book in to stay on Thursday night.

weekend update
You're on to it Ruffy -
ATOC won but not without some really close scores and tough competition. Winning ATOC team was a family - excellent and as Ruffy said they did a fantastic job.
Ruffy came in a close second (another family) - I hope I can wind my 60 up like his one day... minus the breath holes but.
GQHoon in GU came 3rd (husband and wife - well as good as wife)
Jack and his family came 4th.
Rudes will put up the scores on the navrun website very soon - He is very sneaky.
Wombat ate all of Rudi's big Yabbies - DOH!
Special thanks to our regular sponsors and do Daniel and his family who attended and helped. Daniel is MD of Silverstone and donated tyres to 1st place and has also agreed to Pursuit sponsorship and maybe Cliffhanger as well. Cool huh!
Can't wait for next year .... only 364 sleeps...
