custom diesel intake
hey all, just a quick question,
was wondering if any one has made a custom intake/plenum for a diesel before (preferably td42)
would you get the same sort of power gains (with respective mods) that you would normally see on a petrol engine
most turbo petrol cars that run a better plenum get good gains from them so would this be some thing that would work on a diesel??
have been thinking about it for a while and was wondering what you all think
there is heapss of guys on here with big hp patrols and cruisers but none that i have seen have had this done, so does that mean it wouldn't work or it's just not been thought of?
if it was made like the one's att it would have to free up the inlet a bit and give a better flow path
so what you all think??
cheers sean

ARE rock....
They do such good work!
With a diesel, the inlet runner lengths are the key - they actually need to be short - otherwise the beneifts come over 3000 rpm and you have a very petrolly style car.
A custome exhaust manifold on a diesel is actualy the GO. sequentially setup off firing order so it pulses the turbo more - will provide a huge difference in power and make the power band more linear dependant on how its done.
I have been in cars with 2 versions made and there is a clear difference between the manufacturer as one is huge from 1800 rpm and the other is linear - all go off idle - both running identical turbo's and exhaust setups and intercooling. These are on patrols and work very effectively(150+kw at the wheels)...
Have fun!

Thanks for the response there guys, i have seen that one of one that are did but i think its getting a bit extreme for me but i haven't ruled it out!!, im gong to go for an extractor type exhaust manifold and slightly bigger turbo too but i dont want to loose all my lown down power which is why ve been thinking of some thing like this to try and gain more power from other areas
cheers again and keep the thoughts coming along

Just finished a custom intake on my modified GQ 2,8.
Polished and TIG welded alloy with 3" intake. Plenum volume is 4-4,5 litre.
With big BB turbo, FMIC, 12mm plunger , LPG injection etc...... should be around 250 flywheel hp.
