free wheeling hub coversion 0n a 4runner
I have picked up a set of free wheeling hubs to suit my 4runner, it also has toyota's automatic disconecting differential. Is there anything I should know about or change in order to fit these hubs. Do i have to worry about the add axle or is it all good and an easy change.

Why would that happen? Something to do with this "automatic disconecting differential"Hales231271 wrote:Nope it will be fine.
Just don't , and I stress , do not push the 4WD buton while the hubs are unlocked. If you do while moving you will hear a nice bang , not what you want happening.
When the hubs are locked in you can treat the vehicle as it was before without the locking hubs.

In the standard Add system the front axles are always turning as the hubs are always locked.
If you have the axles and spider gears in the diff not moving (unlocked hubs) and you select front wheel drive you are trying to mesh a moving gear to a shaft that is stationary. It do not work to well.
Before , constant locked hubs , all the components are up to the same speed ie :"select 4WD on the fly".

Re Hubs
Thanks for the info I will be fitting them soon. also I have heard it is a good idea to swap the axle that has the ADD for a normal one. How hard is it to do the swap.

RE: Hubs
Thanks for all the info I will see if I can chase up a standard axle housing, I supose the wreckers will want a arm and a leg for one. I think that will be the best way to go and will be a much more reliable mod.
Thanks heaps

Re Hubs
If you can source a housing and axle and give me a price it would be much appreciated. As I would like to do the conversion befor I go to Gnarloo mid may on my annual boys week away fishing.
