4WD not driven ????

I have an 85 Diesel Hilux. Last Xmas I picked up a work car, so now I dont need to use the Hilux as much.
My question is - Does a car not being used damage seals, gaskits or anything else. I was told I should drive it everynow and then to keep everything lubricated.

Any ideas ??

Yep, the seals etc dry out. Some will even 'stick' to a shaft, tearing the next time you go for a spin.

While the vehicle is on a loose surface of course. Do not have the hubs locked on the bitumen.

since when can you not have hubs locked in on road?

maybe you mean not drive in 4wd on the bitumen?

if its got A/C give it a run every 2 weeks to keep the seals wet

If its being left for a long time un driven drain the fule, as the fule will go stale in the tank if its not used

I know low sulpher fuel (diesel) causes leaks in the Injector Pump, but about a month ago on one of my quick runs to the shops I idled the car for a while and noticed the fuel leaking from the pump.
Could the seals in the pump have dried out too ??

Possibly, but unlikely since all the pump seals should be constantly wet.

Another problem with only using it for short trips is that you can get a buildup of sulphuric acid in the oil (from the sulphur in the fuel), but I think ULSD (ultra-low sulphur diesel) is being sold now, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Put a litre of petrol in your diesel tank next time you fill up. The petters will expand the seal out a bit and more than likely fix the leak. Iv'e done it a few times and seem to work well.

The seals in the injector pump can leak, but depends on what seals are used. I think the seals that are Viton compund, something like that, they are the ones that leak with low sulfour fuel, but i cant remember/am to pissed right now. I'm sure someone will correct me anyway. But yeah, as said, keep it turning regually and should be sweet.

Are you sure ? I have heard of a cup full, but a litre ? (What type of petrol ?)
My Hilux (duel cab) should have a 60 litre tank, but the most I have ever been able to put in it is 40 litres (400km). I dont know weather I still have 20 litres sitting in the tank when I refill. My guage shows empty at 400km, so I go on km done and Im not game to push it any further. I have spoken to the last 2 owners and they said he did the same thing.

Other way round... viton seals are used in all new pumps and rebuilt pumps and dont need sulphur to lubricate them...

No worries Rocky -- I hope your a mechanic and have a very LARGE toolbox. You will probably need it.
