What started as front wiper/washer fuse blowing a few times and then developed into front washer motor not working turned out to be an interesting fault.
There is a large loom adjacent to the washer bottle that was fixed in place from the factory. It however was floating around and obviously bouncing up and down with vibrations. Thanks to 0xyg3n we worked out the constant positive was faulty and power was not getting to the washer motor. We decided to use the constant positive from the rear washer motor.
As we pulled some of the tape from the loom we actually found the fault. Where the front washer wires split out of the main loom, the constant positive wire had worn through. A quick wire strip, a dab of solder and some tape and it was as good as new. This happened because the loom was not fixed in place and was floating around. A couple of cable ties to the battery tray and it’s all good.
I wonder how many other wires are about to wear through
Weekdays - Prado GXL D4D with some stuff
Weekends - Mav shorty with lots of stuff
I guess the GQ's are getting to that age where these quirky things like wires rubbing through start appearing more and more. The only dramas I've had so far (touch wood) were from doing the body lift, that made a few things rub and fail. Thanks for the head up though, I'm gonna give mine a bit of a check over now.
i had the alternator cable rub through under the air conditioner thingy behind the right headlight. Caused a small fire, and shorted out a shit load of wiring
My old shorty had the loom that runs under the batt tray come off its holders. And it started to rub thru the wrap stuff. It was rubbing on a bolt on the steering box I think it was.
rog finished off the wiring on mine today, about 4 solid 10hr days work. factory gq is the worst i have seen, the main head light wire is thinner than the small stuff we used for control wiring
