I am thinking of buying a 1991 SR5 4 Runner with a 3.0 litre V6 engine. 5 speed.
My questions are, 1. What are these engines like for towing a 1200kg boat?
2. Is there anything to check when buying? What are there major probs?
3. What kilowatts are they?
I'll answer as well as I can, I owned a 1992 SR5 V6 Speed 4-runner for 8 years, great 4x4!
1. It will pull the boat just dont expect it to be quick (read VERY slow) not the best tow vehicle.
2. The V6 had a head gasket recall from Toyota so check if its been done before you buy it.
3. 106kw (I think!!).
The head gasket problem is common. Sometimes the engine had to come out to have the block machined.

IMHO buy the 3litre diesel, twice the engine, fit a big bore exh to help engine cooling whilst towing
