Spring Retainers

Post by Maggot4x4 »

Went out on the weekend for the first real test of the Rangie since the LC diffs went in, i'm stocked with how it went, and the procomp xterrains worked like a dream.

But, I stuffed my spring retainers again. The are made out of 6mm strap steel but they now look like this > instead of --- top and bottom.

Anyone got any ideas on how to stop this from happening? I don't want longer springs as I love how mine work.

I looked at a colapsing spring setup that i seen sumwhere online - Basically there is a small spring in the main spring that can be compressed during the main springs extension to allow more droop but still maintain the retaining charachteristics.

I am trying to find the images and where i got the info from the first time round (was sumwhere online)...

Also seen in utulised on a toyota in a 4wd monthly issue along time ago.

I think what you are talking about are the top hat system from Macquarie 4x4.

I don't particuly like that system.

I don't like dislocation cones as I like the forced articulation from retained springs.

Try wider/thicker flat bar for the retainer. You could reduce the width/thickness toward the end where it clamps the wire.

Also position the bolts as close to the wire as you can.

This kit is the SG Droop Kit from Safarigard in the US. It costs $250 US + freight. I have spoken to the company on distributing their products but have decided against due to ordering requirements. You can still order from them, just have a look at their site www.safarigard.com they have some great products for L/Rovers much like Rovertym.

So. Where do they come from?

They would have to be cheaper than the Safari guard setup. But not as BLING! :P

Dave, bushy555 made his own spring retained droop kit. There is a thread here somewhere on it. From memory does not show any more than the pics above.
