fast suzukis
fast suzukis
So is there anyone else on this forum who likes to drive their suzi fast or is everyone into rock-crawling?
before i sold mine, i drove it upto the pajero challenge. top speed on a cold night, on perfectly flat ground, with no wind, was maybe 110, but during the day, it struggled to do 100. driving up the winding roads, braking and turning, the inner rear wheel would come off the ground!

You see my off the clock in 4th shots??? Pity I was standing still at the time so I dont think it really counts but the wheels were going fast at least.......

I am running 1L gearing so with higher gearing i could get to go faster MWAHAA HAA HAA
Is that downhill?
over a cliff?
with the wind behind you?
all of the above?
Hooly Dooly, What set up have you got? (motor, tyres etc)
I could never get anywhere near the red line in top gear when my zook was standard
If it's already been thought of...
There has to be a better way...

these days I get death wobbles at anything over 140.
once i get new rubber, balanced and aligned I'll take her down the highway and see what she can do at 7000rpm in 5th. Provided the ratios let it get that high.
suzukis have the aero-dynamics of a loaf of bread.

OK the top speed I have had my girl to is 6500 rpm in 5th gear (I had a toyota gearbox as I still do but the one I run now out of a different model, a supra I think so I have no idea how fast I was ging but I kept up with a v8 commodore & left a new wide track in my wake. This was back in '93 when I was young(er) & stupid) with 3.7 diffs & 235/75/15. I know Chad has had the car at 160km/hr in 4wd in a rally & one other time we were going down the straight at Echo Valley during a short course off-road race & we were off the tacho in third gear.
If we can put one man on the moon, why can't we put them all there!!
Yeah Dozoor - still allowing the dumb antics of "Mr General Public" to line my pocket Had to knock one on his arse the other night - kicked the Jimny hand still hurts
Got a 4inch lift, store-bought snorkel and big BFG's....Liam is measuring up the body lift...all systems are go
Shit.....better get ready to update the avitar
Becky - that's an awsum pic in your avitar - where was that taken?

DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender
That was taken at Echo Valley in Toowoomba in about 1994 (about 2 heats before Chad endo'd it. Actually to describe the crash it was it was a cartwheel with 3 or 4 twists). We were doing a round of the Ettamogah Pub short course series. At that time she was fully race prepped (twin shocks, king springs race pack, which were a waste of money etc.) We used to drive Becky to the events, race, then drive home! Had to do some quick panel beating to get home, then more extensive ones when we got home so I could drive her to work the next morning. I don't know if Echo Valley is still a race venue, but it was an excellent spectator venue because you could see virtually every part of the track. We used to get a big cheer from the spectators because we usually lined up against the likes of Class 8 champ (at the time) Ken Smith in the factory backed rodeo, who had a spring budget bigger than chad's yearly wage & Ian Wilkinson in a jeep backed cj7. They were nice guys though.

Squik wrote:I drive a Jimny....no explanation needed for my lack of speed..
That's no excuse... I have a Daihatsu Terios VVTi overseas and I've taken it to almost 170kms/h on the speedo (around 168 or so which I expect would translate to a "real" 155-160kms/h)... so I expect the Jimny should be quite capable of doing the same or pretty close... of course the Police here in Victoria is no where near as forgiving as in Portugal! Typically you wouldn't be booked if caught at 140kms/h down a highway... whereas here, 102kms/h in a 100kms/h zone is enough to get a fine!
But of course the spirit of this thread was about speeding on "private property" and in a controlled environment right? Not on the open freeway, correct?
Here in Oz I've got a Suzuki Grand Vitara (SWB, soft-top) 1.6lt, auto and never pushed it much... so all I know is that it hits the speed limit ok. Speaking of which, do those finer-filter and after-market washable filters really give you extra power or torque? I got one on the Terios and my first impressions were of an slight loss of power! (didn't "wear it in" yet as I'm here in Oz and the car's not! ... maybe the oil hadn't settled in the filter yet) I remember one particular section of highway which was a huge up-hill where I'd frequently get to 120kms/h before getting the new filter... on putting the new filter in I could never get it past 110
Hmmm this probably should be a new post shouldn't it?
Cheers guys!
my zuk is completly stock except for a performance air filter. I do 145kmh in 4rth gear @ 6000rpm . If i go to 5th, i rev down to 4500rpm and the speedo goes really slowly to 130 . But that's one of the scariest things i've ever done because my suspension (misteriously) is really really harsh and hard . At that speed, even my thoughts make the vehicle shake as a blender. Feels like it's falling apart by pieces.

Apparently there is a really simple way to fix all those rattles and shakes in the car Max --> drive it slower

Scary - with stock gearing I used to easy crack 160kph on my carby Vit, and still able to exceed 140kph with 30" rubber (Northern Territory only I promise you officer).
That is pretty crap for your vehicle's condition and age.
I am now struggling to crack 120 indicated (145kph) and even 100kph indicated takes a really long time and lots of loud pedal. Damn 31" BFG muddies....
