Rover running gear under a zook - anyone seen or done it

Post by lilpigzuk »

Seen people using the Disco/rangie arms for coil setups, just wondering has anyone used rover axles and suspension arms to a Zuk chassis??

have a look in the members section, bubs is building one now.

Main problam with Rangie diffs are the crappy ratios and expensive parts. Maybe look at MQ patrol diffs, they are an easy swap into a WT sierra.

Hilux diffs are also popular however you do need to move the spring perches which is not a big job.

Dozoor had a sierra body dropped onto a rangie chassis too from memory. Pretty sure there was a build thread somewhere.

Parts arent an issue with my job, plus I have a near complete donor Discovery to get the bits off. I have already got hilux axles sitting here to use with a WT chassis, but wouldnt mind doing something different. The current Zuk is a swift Gti powered SJ410. Will only be going to 32" tyres so Im hoping a series 3 rockhopper will sort out gearing (no rocks here either)

Saw Dozoors buildup, would like to try a zuk chassis rather than just a body swap....
Still only on the drawing board at the moment so will ponder it over a few more rums ;)

Thanks

Stock zook axles will last with 32's if you arent going crazy rock crawling all the time. And the under diff clearence will be much better due to the smaller diff size. Not trying to cahnge you mind, just something to think about.

Yep, quite a few of the zuk guys over here run 32" on NT/WT/and coilys. Will attempt to fit them under my SJ413 flatdeck that is meant to be finished before I even consider this project, but this has got me thinking alot.

Appreciate all the ideas being thrown around, exactly what Im after

I saw the pics you posted when you first got it. Very  Would like some WT diffs but they are like rocking horse shit over here, so command high prices. Have the same tyres also sitting here.... I guess gearings the only issue which you have well sorted with the dual transfer setup, not sure if I want to go down this track. Will go hunt down your pics again to have a nosey at you susp links.

with the twin transfers, what you need is the vitara gearbox and then run the sierra transfer out the back of that. Gearing is just right for 32"..

Ok guys sorry about the delays. Had trouble finding the bloody cable for the camera and then i had to find my resize program.Grrr anyways here are the photos that you wanted. The transfer case is a bit of a problem with a big camera and not much room. But i did my best...

the transfer set up is simple. Vitara gearbox with the vitara transfer at the back, then it runs a small prop shaft to the front of the sierra t/case and then from there, the sierra t/case sends drive front/rear. Works really well and is perfect gearing for 32's (well for me anyway because i love going slow). Could probably run 35's without to much trouble....if i had hilux axles. Ring and pinion ratios are still stock. no 5.12s here.
