I'd say the ones in your manual would be a good start.

:D

Engine : 20W/50SE or better. Probably an SG grade these days is the minimum.

Gearbox: 75W90 GL4 (Auto: Matic D (Japanese spec Dexron II NOT Aussie spec Dexron)

Transfer: 75W90

Front Diff: 80W/90 GL5
Rear Diff: 80W/90 GL5 (LSD use LS80W/90GL5)

If your motor Isnt tired, Id use a Diesel oil. Alot more detergenty ( ?) to keep it all nice and clean. If its a bit tired the definatly dont use a diesel oil or your motor will be even worse once you have removed all the deposits. I have seen the inside of a late model Fairlane motor that has has 10,000 km oil changes using Castrol RX super. Its amazing, His Kenworth has also done 1.3 million without a rebuild at last count, over 2 years ago.

Cheers

Get yourself a copy of the Gregory's Automotive no. 509 - Patrol/Maverick petrol engines 1988-1997

it's got all the specs and tolerances you could want to know, and some you don't

as for brands (my opinion only), i usually go for what i can afford. generally cheapest engine oil (i service mine regularly), and next step up from cheapest with the rest (i replace all oils every 10000kms, or less if i'm bored)

If you do a lot of water work it does not really matter if you use a cheaper diff oil as you will, or should, be changing it regularly!
