I have always wondered on how to decide what winch to put on what truck. Competition vehicle favour the warn High mount, which is 8500 lbs. What is the average weight of a comp. truck? 2t, 3t? I have an XL-7 that has a kerb weight of 1.6t and with all my gear, kids and wife I am guessing about 2.5t....would a 6000lbs winch with a snatch block be sufficient. i am not competing, just touring....and planning on using the winch as an assistant to save breaking something and to get out of trouble....speed is not an issue fo me....I have all day....

generally problems occur when you're recovering someone else who may be driving a 2.5t patrol. It pays to go the "overkill" on a winch as you will come to depend on it doing its job.A12 wrote:I have always wondered on how to decide what winch to put on what truck. In the ARB book for there winch bar it recommends the Warn M6000 lowmount,i put the warn M8000 lowmount ,it works a treat and has the same dimentions as the m6000 but has a slower line speed as it has lower gears.im very happy with the M8000 ,i don't really think u need any bigger its overkill in a zuk .
