Ok,
Looking to build a buggy very shortly and I am after suggestions.
Running GQ diffs with commo V6 and auto onto MQ divorced transfer, rear disconnect, 37s if pro mod but 40s if not.
Basically it wont be keepinf up with the joneses, not portals, big V8s, queer steer etc but for ease unlimited would be the go.
what is required as far as panels for pro mod? if it is basically as as simple as bonnet and gaurds it is doable, but the way the rules read door skins etc must look same same as OE, can Sam or Tony please clarify if you read this??? I presume hydro assist is fine for steering?
ne way as soon as the engine sells I will start parting out the GQ so should happen soon

thats what Jeremy thinks as well, the issues atm are do I use the patrol chassis as a base ie steering is easy BUT totaly diff motor and transfer set up.....also what are te requirements for bonnet / gaurds??N*A*M wrote:be disciplined and build it for legends

dico prolly same as jeremys maybe with a small ram to get rid of the lever, otherwise maybe keep the brakes as is and go for one of those ones with the brake on the drive shaft?? but does sound like lotsa work to do that for no real gains over cutting brakes.
going auto for less to think bout as well as gearing
488s in the diff, then just the auto and the transfer, may keep the GQ auto but the MQ divorced is cheap and easy where as gearing in the gq would be good as well as drivline allready lined up no fuss, should not break with the gear I want to run anyway

don't use the patrol chassis. build one from scratch. the patrol chassis is a giant slice of cheese that gets wedged into everything. i would not use a stock chassis if i had to build a new car. you would save a lot of time cutting off useless crap when all you really wanted was the steering box mount. you will have the exact chassis you want if you build it from two lengths of tube. there are some stout steering box mount designs around. but i don't have any pics of them.
i would also consider fj60 diffs over gq. they are cheaper, have stronger cvs available and better turning lock, but weak centers. i'd just sell the gq diffs, unless u already have lockers for them.
since i missed werock, what is jeremy's disco unit based off? the suzuki trailtough ones? or is it a remco unit?

It's a Toyota Trailtough one. The locators for it got a little damaged when the output shaft twisted but it's repairable (thank christ) !!

ask gonads about any tech questions on specifications, he did a nice job on getting jeremy's rig going properly, he drove a few good lines on the weekend until his rear shaft buggered up.
are you making a single or 2 seater?

OK, jeremy reckons tube chassis as well so seems it way be the way to go. will be 2 seater for that ver reason, I dont think at this stage it will be very competitive in the scheme of things so may as have it to play as well. have lockers in the GQ diffs and either heat treated or longfeilds will go in when the oe break

M&M will build me a full tube frame for about 5k, single seat, twin or quad doesn`t matter. If I supply everything else - motor, gearbox, transfercases, diffs, shocks, bags , steering x2, tyres, wheels. He will assemble it for 10K more.

Guaranteed no one would have a chance against the above set-up, purely due to how strong and reliable it would be.
