Have fianally got my engine all back together and I'm planning on starting it this arvo
What I'm after is the best way to get engine oil pressure up before starting. The engine has sat for about 6 months, its also a TD42..
1- Leave the fuel disconnected and crank the engine till oil pressure is shown on the gauge?
2- Or remove oil filters and pack them with vasiline, replace and crank engine over ( I was only told of this meathod a few days ago, and I dont know??)
Also what is the best product to use to flush an engine coolant system??
Don't pack the filters with vas. That's bad!
Prefill them with oil definitely. If it's a fresh build then the vital components would have enough coating on the to start it. It's better to build up pressure quickly so make sure the fuel system is bleed correctly.
Ultimately you want to pressurise the oil system with oil via the pressure sender or somewhere similar.
Good luck
As well as filling your filter with oil (not vas!), remove the injectors to eliminate compression, then turn the engine over until pressure is achieved. Might pay to drop a little oil down into the bores too. This way there's no forces on the big end bearings - or anywhere else in the engine for that matter.
Sounds cool too
I'm pretty sure your oil pump will be self priming, so packing with vas (the pump ) shouldn't be required.

EDIT: I assume taking out the glow plugs would have the same effect as taking out the injectors - that's what i did. Can anyone confirm this is the case? (in partiaular, a 2H or TD42)
Just a side to packing Vasoline in pumps. Anybody re-building Commadore (or similar) p.s. pumps that is having trouble getting the pump to prime and start producing pressure, packing the vanes with Vaso will help this. Bit pissed here, so if no-body cares
