change 'em, don't re-arrange 'em

Post by GQ Bear »

5th gear on my GQ's just all of a sudden gone to shit. It can be engaged, but only by either forcing (and crunching) it or double-clutching.

All other gears are sweet

I've bled clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder, and adjusted clutch pedel, no difference

I pulled extension housing off back of gearbox to replace synchro ring???

synchro appeared to be intact, bit of loose play in it (don't know if thats normal or not). When changing gear into 5th with cover off you could see that the synchro ring was not turning and therefore meshing the gears.

I undid the nut and removed snap clip at end of counter shaft and i wanted to pull gear off end of spline and then pull off synchro and replace. I didn't know if it could be done like this or whether the whole 5th gear counter shaft has to be removed from the box and then pulled apart in opposite order or something like that.

ANY IDEAS???? ANYONE??? :?
