Amp Cut-Out

Have a rather annoying Prob, Amplifier cut's out at even moderate loud volume - Have replaced Power cable to 50W as was suggested that power cable was not sufficient - Have replaced earth cable with a much larger earth & secured tightly - Changed al wires between head unit & Amp - Still cut's out with only moderate Bass??
Clarion System - Pioneer sub. Crank up anything with decent Bass & Amp protect light comes on & I have to turn unit off then on & turn down volume..

Any suggestions..

how old is the amp?

what is the amp powering?

what is the amps rating?

what is the rating of the load?

who installed it?

All of the above questions; also, can you confirm whether it is the amp or the head unit?

Is the amp bridged?

Is everything 4 ohm?

turn all your gains down and then slowly bring them back up...

if other motorists dont like the bass coming from a zook then they can always speed up.. or get a bigger badder sound system and we can have soundoffs!

I've had a similar problem with a pa desk I've used, it sent too much 'signal' too the amp, the amp clipped, cut out, had to turn it off and turn back on t reset it.

Is this a 50W amp?

My first guess would be voltage sag on the bass thumps, but I can't imagine a 50W amp drawing that much.

Find friendly sound store and ask to try a thumping great capacitor at your amp input. Get them to install it, because if you make a mistake it could explode - then you bought it.

Basically, the charge in the capacitor keeps the voltage up to the amp and prevents sag - so if the cap fixes it, your wiring is inadequate. If it doesn't make a difference say "Thanks for your help - I don't want it."

one other thing. my mate yesterday had his amp fark out on him and we found that the 50 amp fuse under the bonnet (inline with amp power) was a bit dodgy. it looked like when made the solder wasnt thick enough on the inside and it just sheared off. he bought a pack of 5 for 15 bucks i think from supersh!t auto

Mate, Amp is about 12 months Old, 400W, Clarion ap450
Installed by car stereo Buisness which has closed down 6 Months Ago. Amp is powering Front Speakers/Splits & Pioneer 12" Sub. Rear speakers are running off the deck, They keep running when amp cut's out, So Deck does not seem to be the problem?
Rating of the Load?? No Idea - Auto electrics isn't my thing.

Yes, Amp is Bridged to Sub - 4ohm ??

first problem is its clarion....i recently had a clarion 400wrms amp and 2 x 12's put into my hilux and it was always cutting out and blowing the 50 amp power fuse. then one day i went to replace the power fuse and that didnt blow but the amp decided to smoke out the whole car

..the funny thing was the power fuse didnt blow neither did the 2 inline fuses for the subs and the amp cut otu didnt work btu clarion thinks its nto a manufactures fault...amp is only 2 months old. i'm going with a jl audio amp or cadence now

Sounds like the amp could be undersized for the job, however it was working previously wasnt it? I say there is a problem with the amplifier, seeing as you cant take it back to where you bought it from, Clarion should honour the warrenty, if they dont.............your stuffed.......

If a protect light is coming on, id be guessing at in input protection circuit. Does your headunit have a "sub volume control" function? or any way of increasing/decreasing the signal sent to the amplifier? Maybe find this, turn it down and try from there.

If it was a blown final or protection diode then it wouldnt turn on and just blow fuses all the time.
