What tyres are you running on 17" rims? Do you have any suspension mods and do the tyres rub. I'm running 30 10.5 r15 BFG muds on the standard rims but am looking at going to bigger (and better looking!) rims. There isnt too much room in there at the moment!

Hi Troy,
I have 265/65 Cooper ATR's on 17" rims which fit nicely. Haven't had experience with 4be tyres so i don't have anything to compare them to. Do the job nicely i would say. That size rim/tyre looks great on the lux although i'm told a spare may be a little hard to get in the outback. Rims are getting bigger on 4be's though, therefore more popular. Hopefully the outback tyre fitters will stock the 17's moreso. Does that sound right guys?
No suspension mods yet but when i can i will probably go for a least a 2 inch lift. I've heard the new lux's are a little low in the front. A few guys around here have lifted the front only, of their machines to make life easier.
u forum guys speak of tyres as 30, 32 inch etc. What would mine be?

Yep, am new to the game but am very interested to learn and do the hands-on approach instead of paying top dollar to the pros and not really knowing what was done. Am a boilermaker by trade so i'm sure that will come in handy.

Well guys i have been checking out my fuel economy over the last few tanks and have been getting around the 11.2 litres per 100k's from my turbo diesel. That's just around town and i do give it a little bit. Up till then i only had 2500 on the clock.
Strange thing is i then took a trip down to Mackay and back (from Cairns) and took it really easy the whole way and my fuel ecconomy only dropped to 10.7 per 100. WTF!!! Sat on 100km/h and did hardly any overtaking and no town driving. Used 3-4 tanks of fuel on the trip and still got the same figures. How can i get nearly the same figures driving on the highway as i do around town? I mean, on the highway i'm only doing 2200 rpm and not stop starting or changing gears all the time.
Even stranger still is that Toyota reckon that the Hilux will get 8.5 litres per 100k's with a mixture of town/highway driving. Now i know my vehical is no where near run-in but BULLSH#T to those figures.

Hi Mate,
I have the T/Diesel Auto and get better economy than you. Mine sits on about 2000 RPM doing 100Km/h.
I have it weighed down with a Steel Bar and winch, canopy and some gear as well.
I get an average of about 10 l /100 km. My best has been 8.8 and the worst has been 12, driveing around town.
Mine has more km on it, I got about 23,000 now. Maybe wait a bit longer and see what happens.
I put Diesel injector cleaner through mine periodically and I drive pretty slow.

I have found if i keep the revs under 2000rpm on the highway, the economy is good around 9lt/100kms.

Yeah i just thought it was wierd that traveling on highway at 2200 revs, i got slightly better fuel consuption then driving around town. In town i stop, start, plant my foot to get into another lane etc.
Never thought i would get 8.5/100k's but somewhere close would be good. Oh well as i said, i'll just put a few more k's on the motor before i get a true reading.
What revs are u guys doing at 100 km/h? I do 2200 revs but i do have bigger tyres.

At 2100rpms/100kms on 31inch tyres. The gps tells me this. If i sit on 2250rpm/110kms economy is just over 10lt/100kms. This T/Diesel engine has done just over 30,000kms.

The 'snap lock' aluminium is called qubelock and i bought it from Capral Aluminium, they are on West Botany St Rockdale. It's cheap, about $20 for a six metre length and about $1 each for the plastic connectors. You can either get them to cut it for you or i just cut it with a mitre box and hacksaw, very easy.

over the 1st 11500kms i have averaged 9.2km per litre city, beach, fast dirt, freeway etc.
i hit the beach at least 2-3 weekends a month though

Each time I fill up I check how many litres of fuel I have really used versus how many kilometres I have driven. The average fuel use (according to the computer) is usually about a litre or so down on what I get when I divide real world litres by real world kilometres.
I am running 31's on the truck so this may effect it, and I've only got about 3000km on the clock, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing?

No sir... they don't have those flashy thingies on my 4x4. Needs me a trundle wheel to measure them there kilo metres. Hard to here them clicks with the pigs and goats in the back but

the trip computer is really slow to update the display.
i don't really use it other than the average since last reset
i hat ethat the fuel light only comes on when you have 20km to go, although the trip meter was on 0 km for a while before i got to the servo.
Has anyone managed to find decent rubber for the standard SR5 15" Rims that was the correct load rating (110) ?
I am having a nightmare.
