mk elec. prob

If the motor was running when these problems developed I would have to say Alternator, perhaps brushes? or points. These are wearing parts and may have faded over time, it might even be your coil. do you have a manuel for reference?
If not it is a really easy job for a home mechanic with common sense, check the bible for instructions, or ask here!

Money on altenator. Put a voltmeter across your battery with the motor running. Should be at least 13.8V. If not, probably easiest just to get another alternator. They have a limited lifespan anyway. If for some reason this doesn't fix it, you have a spare alternator!

sounds alternator. Check to see the belt is there for a start. Brushes can be replaced easilyif you are mechanically minded.

And an L24? Did you put that in? I thought they only ever had L28s in them?

Doubt it. 40W isn't a great deal of power (a few amps will get you there) and that's only when you're transmitting. If you're running lots of power hungry lights and a biiig stereo you might start to get worried. The standard L28 alternators pump out around 60 amps. You're probably not exceeding that without knowing about it.

alternator

Post by rockrover »

the plates say it had an l28 in it but when i bought her it had the engine num l24..... and so on so no i got her like it but the belt has been checked and i put a multimetre across the terminals wile running ..(had to clutch start it) and it read 12.5V so im guessing seeing as tho the alternator says its a 14V4 and 70amp it should produce at least 13.5V i pulled it out and removed the brushes and they hav plenty left on them but it has these little terminals on the base of the brushes that was rather dirty and a little corroded so i cleaned them up cant see nethin obviously rong with it im not familiar with alternators really just kno they hav brushes lol ...the terminal out to the battery was dirty but not wat u would call coroded or nethin like that just mud :D could it be an earth my mate said it could be but im not sure where to start thanks in advance,

14.7V sounds a bit high, and might kill your battery. Might pay to get the regulator checked.
