What do people use as a rear recovery point for their rocky?
I have a towbar tongue bolted on to the rear 4 bolt plate. I presume that was standard. Do people just replace the towball with a shackle? Or do people have an aftermarket hook?

That factory towbar point is reletively weak for recoveries. The plate was torn upwards using this point for recoveries by the previous owner. The tube crossmember behind the plate and rear steps actually started to tear beside the factory weld.
I now have a rear replacement bumper, which is attached at 6 points, across the full width of the vehicle. It has a square tow bar tounge reciever, and 2 rated hooks fitted in line whith the chassis. It was a one off custom job which has seen good service over the last 8 years or so.

I also snapped my towbar when recovering from the standard tongue.
We did a custom job at home on it which involves 10mm plate bolted to the chassis on each side. A piece of 50mm RHS then runs between these two plates and is welded to them at each end. The RHS is then welded to the existing towbar tongue at the top and bottom of the RHS...
This wont break i can assure you

Hmmm .... leverage from the attachment point (towbar) I'm guessing is the reason?
I've seen Ferozas getting around that haven't got towbars fitted and they've got a flat plate bolted onto the towbar point with the loop in the centre of the four bolt holes. I'm guessing that's what they came like from the factory?

My towbar (with shackle in it) has always been strong enuf for me And i've plucked a GQ and a 60 with it . Its like HotFourOk's in the 2nd pic, but is also attached to the two tube bars at the rear, which are bolted to the chassis (IIRC). When It breaks, i'll reinforce it. Can't imagine it coming off in a great hurry. But dropping it in rocks is slowy making it push upwards, making opening the rear door incresingly difficult

Yeah, yours is the stronger type F70.. I think theyre rated at 3t.. where mine was rated at only 1t.

Leverage could have been a helping factor murcod.. although the stock towbar setup only had two small lines of weld (about 30mm each), and only on the outer side of the plate that was attached to the chassis tube, not inside and outside.
