few q's about an 80 cruiser

Post by Golding »

hey all.
i have a few questions about the 80 series cruisers.

i keep pinching my exhaust, not just the the end but a little further down. its pretty hard to get out aswell.
would it be worth upgrading to a 3" exhaust and tuck it uop a bit better?
or, would i be better off cutting it off at the end of the muffler and replace the section where the pipe is crunched to go over the diff?
if anyone has put on a 3" exhaust, how much did it cost?

also, id like to put in a boost gauge so i know what the turbo is doing.
problem is i have no idea how. would it be anything like the surfs one?
ive had a look around the surf tech site (i used to own a surf) and it seems like a good write up.
has anyone got any pics of an install on an 80?

thanks in advance

I had the same problem. Because I have 2" body lift we rebuilt the extractors and ran the whole system between the body and chassis, then dumped the pipe just behind the rear wheel. Never had problem since.

you need to run some vac hose from your gauge to your inlet manafold just try and find a vac hose on the manafold cut it and insert a t pice the closer to the maifold the better as this will give you correct boost reading of what the motor is geting the closer to the turbo the higher the reading will be

The gap between the chassis cross member and body located just before the rear diff is where the prob may lie with a 3inch system. The original toyota exhaust has a factory squash to allow it to fit. I have a 2 1/2 inch system and in some situations it rubs. I am regularly adjusting exhaust clamps to keep it free. Maybe a 3inch system would cause more problems???
